Ireland / Re: Help to find Michael and Bridget Roach please

if you go to this site

http://kilkenny.brsgenealogy.com/search.php

there's a Michael Roach(e) born 1844 whose father is Michael.

you have to register for free to get this information - then if you like you can pay for a cert? transcription? not sure!

added later - if you fiddle about with the parishes, I think this was in Danesfort(RC)

when you recover from your Irish trip, do let's know whether you found anything interesting about the Reids etc

manus,
when you get a chance to see the full RIC records, they'll tell you all his postings, his marriage date - even when (if) he was fined etc.

and Irish, Scots Gaelic and Manx have a lot in common (Q-celtic) .. though I find the spelling in Manx very confusing.

I think the Irish and Scots boards are mostly used to chat about TOTB things - so, chewboy, come to the Gaeilge board to be wished a happy Christmas!

Other Countries / Re: Leeward Islands Police - anyone know?

Thank you Bob

I've just begun to see that my geography of the West Indies is pretty awful -
I didn't know that the Virgin islands were part of Leeward islands,
or that the US ruled some of them.

I read that some Colonial Policemen were trained by the RIC in Dublin,
but it only mentions Jamaica and Trinidad in the Caribbean.

what does the gt stand for?  - is that for Great Britain St ?
yes, Dale
in the directory it was under"B" for Britain St, Great

I don't think you'll have time for a beer in Dublin - you'll be far too busy rushing around to these locations and libraries and archives - - living on bananas and chocolate bars!!
