Durham Completed Look up Requests / 1861 census look-up - COMPLETED
« on: Friday 22 October 10 15:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

Could someone please check the 1861 census for Sarah Hodgen born c1829 living at Wingate (birthplace Hetton le Hole ?). She may have children Esther c1849, William c1850 and Benjamin c1854.

I am trying to establish if they are the family of Robert Hodgson who later appears in New Zealand and marries as a bachelor in 1879.  ???

Thanks,
Colin

US Lookup Requests / 1890/1900 census look-up please - Wyoming -
« on: Monday 18 October 10 21:12 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I am not familiar with US records so any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to find information on Richard Reed Hodgson born 1821 North Shields, Northumberland England. In the 1881 England census he is a Mining Engineer.
His wife, Elizabeth (nee Calvert) was born 1819 Gunnerside, Yorkshire, England.

Both are buried in Almy, Wyoming, where Elizabeth died in May 1900, and Richard was accidentally killed in a runaway at Diamondville, in Dec 1903.

They had no known children but may have adopted Elizabeth's niece, Rebecca Calvert born 1874 Haswell, County Durham, England. In the 1881 census she is listed as Rebeca Hodgson.

I'm assuming they would have gone to the USA between 1881 and 1891 but it's not an easy name to trace.

Thanks for any help,
Colin

Durham / Hartlepool Newspapers - 1905
« on: Wednesday 13 October 10 23:22 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,

I've been looking into my extended family and seem to have found a black-sheep  8) 8)

He lived with his widower father at 7 Marske St, West Hartlepool and enlisted into the Army, Yorkshire Regiment, at Richmond on 27th Jan 1905. On 22nd July 1905 he was Discharged for Misconduct and I was wondering if the local papers might have had an interest in it.

Does anyone have access that would be prepared to look?
I will be checking The Northern Echo and the D&S Times but I doubt if they would be local enough.

Ooops, almost forgot to mention his name - Robert Crudace, service number 8022.

Thanks,
Colin

Armed Forces / 1905 - Fraudulent Enlistment... or not?
« on: Tuesday 12 October 10 00:19 BST (UK)  »
This is my 3rd attempt to post because of oversized images.  :-[
I should know better by now but losing the text of the message is really gutting so here's a brief request. Can anyone suggest what's going on?

Armed Forces / Chelsea Pensioner Records on FindMyPast
« on: Saturday 09 October 10 01:25 BST (UK)  »
I was checking the latest release of records on the off-chance that my Granddad might be there, but alas  :(

However, I was surprised to find another family member who is listed. He was born 1885 in Middlesbrough, North Riding of Yorkshire, and married in 1907 which produced 6 children up to 1920. All records show him as a Shunter for the NER, except one where he was a Railway Guard. He died prematurely in 1930 but I don't have the death certificate so don't know the cause of death.

Does anyone know what sort of details the Chelsea Pensioner records contain?
Is it usual for someone serving in a military capacity not to have it recorded anywhere in normal records?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated,
Colin

Armed Forces / RN Service Record - Gratuities Query
« on: Monday 27 September 10 20:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,

I'm looking into the service record of my Great Uncle, 1901-1925 based at Chatham. I know very little about him and have no family stories about his service so it's not easy. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm very curious about the attached entry and can't decide if it is a single entry or 2 separate entries. Google doesn't help.

Regards,
Colin

Hello All,

On a popular thread in the Common Room, some posters are quoting details from the London PR's and I was wondering if they are available online.

I'm particularly interested in a marriage of Ralph Simpson at St James', Westminster, in 1812 and I am fairly sure it is from my Mother's maternal line, but Ralph was a butler to the Allan family in the North-East of England.

The marriage details are on the IGI but the PR's might hold more information.

Thanks,
Colin

Completed Census Requests / Census look-up, 1851 and 1861 - COMPLETED, THANKS
« on: Sunday 25 July 10 02:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,

Curiosity is getting the better of me so if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

I've eventually got round to checking out the family of my GtGrandad's second wife and her mother is causing a problem. The IGI extracted records show that Martha Beaty was baptised in 1845 at Bromfield, Cumberland, illeg. daughter of sarah Beaty who is probably the daughter of Robert & Mary Beaty, baptised at Bromfield in 1824.

I've got details of Martha from 1867 when she married, but have just been checking earlier census (no access) and in 1851 she appears to be at Abbey Holme, Wigton, Cumberland. She also seems to be in the same place in the 1861 census.

I am really curious as to what Abbey Holme was.

Regards,
Colin

Cumberland / St Mungo's, Bromfield, 1896
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 01:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

My Great Granddad was married in this Church in 1896 and I have a copy of the Register Office certificate but it is only a transcription and I would like to obtain a copy of the original Church record with actual signatures. I've tried searching for the location of records but I can't find any mention of St Mungo's being a Parish Church in Bromfield.

I would appreciate any help with contact details.

Thanks,
Colin
