I know I issued a challenge ( sort of!) but this photo is a bit special as it's the only one of my Mam's older sister who died of TB at the age of 19.

Can it be restored?

PS. Just to fill you in, I have the task of compiling a photo album from my Mam's photo collection and a lot are worse for wear, as you might have gathered.

Hello all,

I had such a great result from my last request, that I thought I'd try another.

It is my Mam and her Auntie and she'd be thrilled to see it as it should be.

Regards,
Colin

This is a photo of my dad's sister who died at the age of 17 in 1929. Can anything be retrieved?
I've seen some amazing results but I have no real hopes for this one. I hope I have re-sized it OK, and attached it properly.

Regards,
Colin

Ayrshire / COMPLETED, Thanks -Scotland's BMD Indexes
« on: Wednesday 26 August 09 22:57 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,

Could someone please tell me what information is contained in the index. I can't find any information or an example online.

I am tracing another line of my family and have come across something a bit odd. I can't use names as these are fairly recent in genealogical terms. He was a well known character in a village in County Durham where he was born. He also married there and had a son born there. The next event is the burial of his ashes which was followed by the burial of his wife's ashes. For some reason the name of their daughter and her address in Kilmarnock were noted in the register.

I have searched on Scotlandspeople and found a hit for both deaths, and a probable hit for the daughter. I don't want to go to the expense of buying certificates, nor do I particularly want to buy more credits where most will end up in the expired bin with a few others that are already in there.

Regards,
Colin

Armed Forces / Baptisms, Jamaica c1826
« on: Sunday 09 August 09 22:34 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to help someone find a baptism record and hope someone here could advise.

According to census details Edward Swainston was born about 1826 in Jamaica. His father was Edward Fawcett Swainston who was serving in the 33rd Regt of Foot.

Any help would be appreciated,
Regards,
Colin

Durham Lookup Requests / 1841 census please
« on: Saturday 18 July 09 16:12 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I would appreciate a bit of help in looking for William Hodgson born c1818 at North Shields. In Nov 1840 he married Ann Pigg at Chester le Street, where both were of Waldridge and he was a collier (miner).

I am trying to piece together the possible family movement prior to this, so I would like to know where they were living and if anyone else lived with them.

Thanks,
Colin

Durham Lookup Requests / 1851 census, Jane McLowery at Stockton
« on: Monday 22 June 09 20:40 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I didn't have time to check this out at the library, so I'd appreciate some help.

Jane McLowery c1835 was not with her family and I would like to know her birthplace, and the family she was with in 1851.

I believe she married in 1853 (Jane McLoughry is the correct name) to either Thomas Horsley or Samuel Sirrels, and would be interested in the 1861 details as well.

*** Added Later - Tees Valley Indexes show Jane McLaughry married Thomas Horsley ***

Thanks,
Colin

Durham Completed Look up Requests / COMPLETED - 1901 census, Henrietta Guthrie
« on: Saturday 13 June 09 22:20 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,

I'd be grateful if someone could find the household details in the 1901 census for Henrietta Guthrie born 1865 in Darlington. She appears to be in Norwich with her mother, of the same name, but it gives her mother's birthplace as Godmanchester instead of Scotland, in 1825/6

These are my wife's side of the family tree and this move is a bit of a puzzle. Young Henrietta was born just after the family moved from Scotland to Darlington.

Regards,
Colin

Durham Lookup Requests / Burial at Castle Eden, 1858
« on: Wednesday 27 May 09 00:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

It's a bit of a long shot, but I am trying to untangle my Hodgsons.
Robert Hodgson was married in New Zealand in 1879 and was said to be a Bachelor, but it now looks as though he married Sarah Hepplewhite at Kelloe in 1848 (in 1851 she appears as Hanah which is probably an enumerator's transcription error).

There is a death registration in Q1 1858 for Ralph Hepplewhite Hodgson in the Easington district. The only possible birth seems to be in Q2 1857 but he turned out to be the son of Richard & Mary Hodgson of Seaham, so I would like to find the burial details, especially age and father's name.

I'm not sure when I can get to County Hall again, so if anyone can help to find the details of the burial, then I might get a better night's sleep :( :(

It would also help to narrow down the time when he (with or without his family) emigrated.

Regards,
Colin
