Durham / Re: Winterton Mental Hospital 1950s/60s - any ex-employees?

Hello Vinne57, and welcome to Rootschat.

The responsibility for burials of patients rests with their family and next of kin (where known).
I would suggest looking at local newspapers (The Northern Echo) for death notices a day or two after his death, which will include burial details.

If he worked in a shipyard he would most likely be exempted from active wartime service.

My recollection of the thinking of the time was that measles, german measles and chickenpox had severe complications if contracted in adulthood (blindness and infertility), so childhood contact was the thing to do as there were no lasting consequences.

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Durham Record Office - Tanfield & Lanchester PRs
« on: Saturday 09 February 19 22:36 GMT (UK)  »
I had come across a few of the double entries, and all were by licence. My initial reasoning was that the marriage took place in the bride's Parish but the service was conducted by groom's encumbent.
BUT... on a pro-forma register where blanks were to be filled in, there was a big clue to the answer. The pro-forma had - were married in this Church - and the groom's Parish register had the 'in this Church' crossed through, so my theory is that because there were no Banns published, and the marriage was in a different Parish, the groom's encumbent announced the marriage to his congregation and entered the details in his register. No wagging tongues in his Parish!!

I agree. I think the top line reads 4 Mos Impt, but I'm not sure what the last bit is 'de'?

I'm not familiar with Scottish records but I'm pretty sure that parents were not responsible for putting entries into Parish records, so why blame them for the omission? I think it is more likely to be a name or title of the Church official but I can offer no suggestions  :(

I'm wondering if the second word could be Work. The bit below the line is mainly darker and could be part of the checker's marks.

Darlington library, Local Studies Section, has a good range of Trade and Street directories. As you have most details it might be worth putting in a look-up request for anyone visiting the library, or email them directly. The staff used to be extremely helpful and do these free of charge, but under the current extreme financial pressures I'm not sure what might be charged.

The Common Room / Re: Letter A in baptism register

I think it is more likely to be Acceptance into the Church, after a previous private baptism.
