I think it may be a Dove. There are plenty of examples of this bird featuring just in the Crest rather than the Coat of Arms.

This one belonging to Robert Barkley bears a striking resemblence:

Thanks for the info larkspur, much appreciated.

I think I'm going to have to re-visit my notes on this branch as I can't remember where I got Sarah's surname  ???, but it looks like I may have it wrong and she may be the BAILEY you found.

If so, and she is the daughter of John & Ann, it's a good possibility that the John BAILEY in Gamston 1821 is the family - That would all fit.

Thanks again. I'll start a new topic when I've found my notes, rather than highjacking this one any more. :)

Could I trouble you to see if there are any FLETCHERs listed?

I think that is the Gamston I'm interested in - close to East Retford.

William PARKIN (b.1791 Babworth) married Sarah FLETCHER (b.1791 Retford) in 1816 at East Retford.

They are at Gamston Wood in 1851, I assumed it to be a farm owned by the PARKINs but it just occured to me it could be the FLETCHERs that originate from here?

Cpl. H Pattinson, M.M. appears in the list of 'residents' of the British War Cemetery, Escoublac - La Baule, Brittany on that site.

Just for information, quotes from "Wisbech and the Fenlands" website:

Neil1821 beat me to it. Was going to say exactly that but would add this quote from 'Wiki':

Africa Star: "Members of the Australian Imperial Force qualified for the Star for service in Syria from 8 June 1941 and 11 July 1941."
