US Lookup Requests / Frederick Wilson
« on: Friday 20 February 09 18:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there,

Frederick Wilson was born in 1868 in Hanley, Staffordshire. His parents were Thomas Evans Wilson and Hannah Chadwick.  I cannot find any trace of him in the UK after he appears on the 1881 census. I know he had an uncle who emigrated to the US, and resided in Salt Lake City, Utah, so I am wondering if he may have chosen to follow suit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this one.

All the best

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / 1901/1891 Census lookup please - Robinson
« on: Tuesday 20 January 09 21:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,

I have managed to break down a brick wall as far as my husband's grandmother's family on the 1911 census but can't trace the story back as I've let my Ancestry subscription lapse, can anyone help?

This is what I have -

1911

23 Queen's Square, Eastwood, Notts

Sarah Louise Robinson  Head  Widow  age 61  School Mistress  Lenton, Notts.
William Daniel Robinson  Son  Mar  age 27  Colliery Clerk  Nottingham
Hannah Robinson  Daur-in-law Mar  age 25      Eastwood, Notts.
Hannah Louise Maud Robinson  G-daur  age 1m  Eastwood, Notts.

Could anybody find them in previous census returns, 1901 & 1891? which would give me Sarah's husband.

Also I think I've located a marriage for William Robinson and Hannah - 1910 William D Robinson and Hannah Oxley 7b 614 Dec Nottingham. Is there a Hannah Oxley on 1901 census born Eastwood c.1886 to verify this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the best

Ireland / Looking for O'Hare
« on: Thursday 15 January 09 19:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there,

I am searching for Michael O'Hare born c.1909, father's name Francis O'Hare. I am only guessing that he was born in Ireland (going by the name!)  There is no trace of a birth record or appearance on the 1911 census in England.

I have no idea how to go about searching in Ireland or what resources I could use - any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

All the very best
Sue

Armed Forces / Help with finding lost relative
« on: Thursday 07 September 06 20:13 BST (UK)  »
I have searched for many years to locate my relative Benjamin Simms Wilson after 1861.  He appears on the census of that year but not on any further ones, nor can I find a death entry. He was living in Swadlincote in Derbyshire with his family in 1861 but was born in Newhall, Derbyshire in 1840.

I have toyed with the idea that his was involved in the military, to which he did not return.  Could any experts suggest where I might look and if there were any armed conflicts around this time that he may have been involved in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Warwickshire / Marriage lookup - Griffiths/Wellings c.1836
« on: Thursday 30 March 06 00:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters,

Is there anybody who might know where I might find the details of a marriage between Evan Griffiths and Ann Wellings in either Aston or Birmingham.  Their first child was born in 1837, so the marriage would be just before the beginning of civil registration.  There's nothing on the IGI, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to where I might find this information.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best Wishes

Shropshire / Broseley - Pottery
« on: Tuesday 25 October 05 00:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I wonder if someone would know how I can find out more about a Pottery which was in or around Broseley in the 1850's?

I have a relative who I have traced as being "Earthenware Manufacturer employing 24 men & boys" on the 1851 Census, his address is given as Jackfields, Broseley.

Is there a Local Historical Society or similar in the area which might be able to point me in the right direction?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Staffordshire / Wolverhampton Burials
« on: Monday 24 October 05 23:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

Could anyone with local knowledge of Wolverhampton advise where my family members might be buried.  I'm trying to locate the final resting place of George Proudman and his wife Elizabeth who both died in Wolverhampton in 1870.  I don't know the area but I am visiting the locality soon and would love to visit their graves if possible.

Their last known address is Montrose Street if this helps.  I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Regards
Sue    :)
