Canada Lookup Request / Re: William Henry Walls
« on: Friday 19 November 21 13:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Sandra,

This all looks very promising, I hadn't been able to find out anything about Elsie, so thanks. I'm still presuming she died before 1926, although this family does seem to have a propensity for divorce, so who knows!

The only other loose ends I have are the date of marriage for Bertha Sylla Walls to Alfred Thompson (probably after 1941 in Canada) and the date of marriage for Wandalee Sturgeon (Walls) to William A Thomas (sometime between 1974 & 1981 in Canada). So if you come across this information I'd be very grateful.

I've been working on this line all morning so I appreciate you getting back to me.

All the best,
Sue

Hoorah - and thank you, the elusive 1st wife was Elsie. Well done for finding that for me. I can now search for a death record.

You've been great, thanks again

I found this record -

William H Dugdale Walls to Starkey - 1915 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Is there any way of finding the wife's maiden name?

Fantastic stuff Sandra,

He's definitely our guy and thanks for all the other stuff too!  Maybe the "Widower" part on his marriage certificate was a mistranscription as there is no previous marriage information for William and he declares himself single when he emigrates to the US from Canada.

Many thanks for your hard work, I will add all this extra information to my tree.

All the best,
Sue

Rosie and Sandra,

Wow - thanks, I only nipped out to fetch my grandson from school, quick work!

William Henry Walls was a Clerk and had a brother Lawrence T Walls, so that fits.  I had seen the Ancestry tree and was going along those lines until I discovered a death record in New York.

I am also sceptical about the Bertha Finney marriage, as the census lists him as Warper, not Clerk, but I won't totally discount it just yet.

Thanks again for your time.

All the best,
Sue

Hello friends,

I was hoping that someone may be able to find William Henry Walls sometimes William Henry Dugdale Walls in Canada.

He was born in Liverpool in 1888 to Christopher and Louisa Walls nee Dugdale. He appears on the 1911 census there but disappears until 1926 when he arrives in the US from Canada,  He marries in 1928 in Manhattan and dies there in 1941.  On his marriage record, he is listed as a widower. I cannot find an earlier marriage record for him and wondered if he married in Canada?

I would be ever so grateful for any help!

Many Thanks
Sue    :)

Leicestershire / Re: Thomas Wilson, gentleman of Coleorton

Hi there,

There is quite a lot of information on the Wilson family thanks to their involvement in Coleorton Pottery.  I strongly recommend the book "Coleorton Pottery 1835-1938" by Samuel T Stewart, I helped provide some family history information on the Wilson family for this book and it contains very many interesting details about our ancestors lives. Samuel Stewart has done an excellent job!

Unfortunately there has been no progress on tracing the family any further back from Jane's father, Thomas Wilson who was born 1767 in Donisthorpe, Leicestershire.  How interesting that Frances Jane & her family emigrated to the US, no wonder I have not been able to trace her after the 1881 census.  I would love any information you may have about the Turner family after this date to add to my tree.

Jane's brothers continued to run the Pottery after their fathers death and made a very good business of it.  Jane was a beneficiary in her brother Thomas' will, he left her £850 which would have the same spending worth of £41,063.50 today.  I can send you a copy if you like, send me a personal message.

All the best
Susan

Hmmm - didn't spot that one straight away, oh well she's not the first in my tree and probably won't be the last, it's just disappointing that we come to a dead end.

Thanks for the info anyway, it's great to be in possession of all the facts, whether pleasing or not!

Kindest wishes,
Sue   :)
