Hi Pauline,

Thanks for your reply. I've managed to track Peter down. He was on the 1851 at Jarrow!

Happy Christmas  :)

I save all emails to a folder in My Documents, different folders for each branch of the family.

I also have a family history address book and write all contact details in that with a note indicating which family we have discussed (just in case the computer goes doolally!)

Hi Caroline,

I'm really sorry to hear about your family's loss.

With regard to the enthusiastic researcher that contacted you were they aware of the family tragedy when they contacted you? If they were then I think you were right to be offended and I think in your shoes I might have been less than polite in replying to them.

Last year I contacted a possible cousin on GenesReunited to compare family notes. My email was enthusiastic (but polite). Unfortunately the day I emailed her father died. She sent me a very brief email to tell me that this had happened. My immediate response was to reply and apologise if I had caused her any distress and passing on my sympathies to her and her family.  No mention of family trees.

We are now great friends and as well as exchanging emails we meet up every now and then like old friends.

I wouldn't worry about being too sensitive or angry, everyone has their own way of dealing with difficult situations and you have to do what feels right for you.

Technical Help / Re: Laptop & Printer working together!
« on: Wednesday 02 November 05 15:28 GMT (UK)  »
Just to let you all know..... I've now got it working  ;D

Because we use a Belkin router I've splashed out £49 and bought the Belkin Wireless Printer Server (I think Guy suggested that option!) and it took me about 15 minutes to get it all up and running!!

Now I just press print from either computer and Bob's yer uncle  ;D

Thanks very much for all of the advice and help, sorry I've dithered for so long
trying to decide what to do but I thought the least I could do is let you all know the outcome of my dithering ;D ;D ;D

I finally summoned up the will power to sort through my 9 pages of "Hot Matches" at GR this evening (I don't know how long they've been sat there waiting for me ::)) BUT .......

after clearing out all of the ones I'm already in contact with and the ones that are so unlikely they're not worth the effort I was left with a handful of "possibles".  After reading through the ones that were left amazingly I found a first cousin that I haven't seen since I was about 8!! We've exchanged numerous emails this evening and it's great and we haven't got round to discussing family history yet  ;D

Hi Joy,

Thanks for letting us all know you've received the death certificates for the Jones boys and their parents marriage certificate.

Good luck with the rest of you research.

Tabitha  :)
