Hi John,

Thanks very much for the additional 1851 details  :)

I haven't been able to track them down in 1861 at Durham Records Online as yet ....not helped by the fact they seem to call themselves McKenna and also Kennedy ::)

The son Peter is living in Houghton-Le-Spring in 1871 with his wife & family on the census the family name is given as Kennedy but Some of Peter's children were registered with the name McKenna!

Thanks again,

Tabitha :)

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for your reply and the links to the sites.

I'm not sure if these ancestors had left Ireland by 1848 but suspect that they had. I need to check out the 1841 census but know they were in Co. Durham in 1851.

Thanks again for your help.

Tabitha

Thank you Jan, at least now I know I'm not barking up the wrong tree!  ;D

If anyone has access to the full census transcript etc. I'd be really interested in birthplaces for this family.

Cheers

Antrim / Advice please - new to N.I. research!!
« on: Thursday 22 September 05 11:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've just sort of broken down a brick wall in Co. Durham which is now pointing me to Shankill, Antrim.

Really exciting but now I'm well and truly stuck as I've never had to research family in Ireland so don't know what resources are available, where they are likely to be, etc. etc.

The couple that led me to Antrim are James McKenna and Jane Bonner.
James was (supposedly!) born in Shankill, Antrim in about 1809, Jane in about 1813. They married in about 1834 again supposedly in Shankill.

For a start is Shankill an area of the town Antrim or a town/village in the Co. Antrim?!!

Any advice or suggestions on how to follow up this lead would be really appreciated  :)

Cheers
Tabitha

Could someone please do a lookup for me in the 1851 census?

The family I'm looking for are in Jarrow and the details I have are:

Jane McKenna, wife, 30
Peter McKenna, son, 13
Jane McKenna, dau, 10
Elizabeth McKenna, dau, 3 (born in Jarrow?)

Thank you

Tabitha  :)

Hi Brian,

According to the West Midlands Police Museum at http://www.westmidlandspolicemuseum.co.uk/subpages/Dudley.htm

"Prior to 1920 any officer serving in Dudley would have been a member of the Worcestershire Constabulary. However, records for that force are not currently available to the public although that situation may change in late 2004. An update will appear here in due course."

The museum can be contacted at:

West Midlands Police Museum

Sparkhill Police Station,
639 Stratford Road,
Sparkhill,
Birmingham B11 4EA.
