Armed Forces / Re: WW2 Fleet Air Arm Service Records
« on: Thursday 03 August 17 16:00 BST (UK)  »
Thank you !  I had no idea.

Will follow up as Dad has started reminiscing quite a lot about his wartime service - and about his father who served in WW1 who's records unfortunately have been lost.

Am I able to get a copy of my father's Fleet Air Arm records from WW2 - even though he's still alive at 93?

We have HIS copy of his Service record but he says it's incomplete and that the official record should have more information about where he was.

Cambridgeshire / Re: Cambridgeshire Archives moving to Ely?

Wouldn't have minded going to Ely rather than Cambridge when I started my research back in 1999 as my parents lived [at that time] just the other side of Welney Wash!

The children are living with their grandparents on the 1911 census.
Do you know where their mother Ann is.

WhiskyMac
Their mother, Anne Maria was in Chatteris - her home town - working as a Monthly Nurse for the Asplands who lived on York Road.

At least you managed to rule it out.   What was his occupation.

Farmer.  Have just unpacked all my research notes from a few years ago to see if there are any old leads to re-follow - wish me luck !

Still hunting for my runaway Gt Grandfather, Walter SCOTT - bn 6 October 1867 in Christchurch. nr. Upwell to John & Hannah SCOTT.

According to family lore, in about 1905, Walter did a runner with the school teacher from Stonea School, and was never heard of again - leaving a wife and 3 young children including my grandmother, Grace.  They apparently went to Canada, but no-one knows.

Now, a distant relative has come up with the information that Walter died aged 40 in Cambridge in 1908 !   Mar Qtr, 3b, 331.

What I'm really after - does any fellow SCOTT researcher hold a copy of this certificate as I'd love to find out if this really is my gt grandfather.
