This is the marriage of James Swan (son of James Swan, Drum, Co Monaghan to Mary Swan)

Swan, James    Spouse : Swan, Mary J.
    Date/Year of Marriage : 1874
    Location : Manhattan
    County : New York
    *Certificate Number : 4

...It would be very interesting to find out about James (Senior), from Crosslea, Drum, Clones...AND Robert Swann Dromore Lodge, county Monaghan,

Apparently they went back and forward to Ireland but for who? Why? What are they doing in Brooklyn?? J Swann jnr was born and baptized in Brooklyn....

On the 3d March 1874, at Brooklin, New York, by the Rev. Mr. JOHNSTON,
_*James SWAN,*_ Esq., of No. 150 Prospect street, in that city, _eldest son of Robert SWANN, Esq.,_ of Dromore Lodge, county Monoghan,
_*to Miss Mary SWANN;*_ late of Cotehill, only daughter of James SWANN, Esq., of Crosston House near Drum same county

So many questions!!

  • Would like to know what church they married in.
Did they own 150 Prospect Street?
James's son James was born in NY!!
    Who did they work for?
    Any newspaper articles about them?
Were they in US on another census?
Can I look up the census to see who else was at that particular house on the census night?
As Robert was back and forward to US are there any records I should be looking at please? Tax records etc please...

Getting the marriage cert is the easy bit......Life details are another thing!!

Would really appreciate any help, thank you.

The only connection I can give you is a Presbyterian minister   .....

Rev Steven Rea          (*) , I won't put the exact email address up as it may be "harvested" for spam!

He is from nearby Enniscorthy town, maybe email him and he should have some knowledge of Presbyterian Churches in Gorey!
