Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Re: My interests Judith Ozanne born about 1827
« on: Monday 24 December 12 15:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

From a local publication, Guernsey Emigrants to Australia 1828-1899 by David W. Kreckeler, we find the following:

Ozanne, Judith, aged 27, domestic servant emigrated on board Earl Grey to Melbourne in 1853.
Birth, St. Sampson parish church register- Judith Ozanne, daughter of John Ozanne and of Judith Langlois his wife, born on 12th Sept 1827.

 Hope that helps you.

  Merry Christmas,

   Andy Smith

I do't know if this is your source, but the following tree is published on the Jersey family history section of Jerripedia, the online encyclopedia for Jersey.

Hope this helps

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: Jersey lookup request Helleur/Amy family

Hi cousin Lisa!

I'm afraid we're in the same boat regarding Marguerite, as I have only an approximate year of birth, a marriage date and a death date. I'm in Guernsey, so my family didn't move too far! I don't have any data on the Gruchy name in Jersey, save that there are some in the telephone directory!

Nice to see all the connections to the Helleur line out there- my own direct connection is with Marthe Helleur b. 1720 in St. Brelade, Jersey who is my 5x gt grandmother and married Elie Romeril. Marthe was daughter of Matthieu b.1684 St. Brelade and his wife Marguerite De Gruchy b.1687 in St. Lawrence.
Apologies for being absent from the board for so long- I have a job and several other interests that take up most of my time in the summer!

Re Littlefield surname- I know that a family of Littlefields were evacuated to Halifax just before the Channel Islands were evacuated in 1940, and never came back after the Liberation in 1945- I think they had connections with both Guernsey and Alderney and remember meeting Bill and his sister Muriel on their visits to Guernsey- Muriel was friends with my mother. There was also another brother called Norman.

Hi Tom,

I checked the marriage index from 1911 until 1932 but found no marriages for a Dora Leech that took place in Guernsey within that time, only three were shown, for Christina A. Leech (March 4 1926), Albert John Leech (July 1 1926), and Beatrice Leech (19 Aug 1931).

 Sorry for the negative result.

Hi, I took a look at the Alderney records held at the Priaulx Library in Guernsey, but sadly there is a gap between 13th May 1871 and 13th Dec 1874 where no records seem to have survived. A check in Guernsey's Civil Register index also drew a blank for the surname Gurney in that period.

 I'm sorry I couldn't do any better.

Hi Jan

thanks again for trying- yes I've looked at both but again everything I've found up to now is inconclusive. Probably won't get any further on this line. Even found a letter for sale on eBay from a John Smith in London with tender for lamps from the right period but that one was south of the river!

  Best regards

  Andy

Hi Jan,

never mind- it was a long shot with that surname anyway. Presumably this suggests a family firm? Would there be any Smiths from that vicinity earlier than those dates? There might also be a connection with the surname Walker somewhere along the line as this crops up as a middle name in the 19th century although I've found no connection with that surname anywhere yet.

 Thanks for trying,

   Andy
