Sussex Lookup Requests / Hastings Cemetery - look-up request - Chadwick
« on: Saturday 06 November 10 16:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking for burial records, gravemarkers, photos, etc. for a few people who died in St. Leonards-on-the Sea, Hastings, Sussex.

Jane (nee Wood) Chadwick died 13 June 1867 according to her probate.  Age 43.  She was born in Derbyshire.  According to her probate she had lived at 4 Warrior Square Terrace, St. Leonards-on-the-Sea.

Her son Arthur Reginald Syers Chadwick died April 1867.  Age 3.

Jane's husband, William Chadwick, may have died in Hastings or Lambeth.  I have not confirmed his death date and place yet.  He was born abt. 1812.

Before living in Hastings the family lived in Lambeth, Surrey for many years.

Any information would be helpful and appreciated.

Thank you.

When I started my family research I ran into a stumbling block due to a name.  My grandmother always told me stories about her grandparents.  She called them grandma and grandpa Tom.  So when I started doing my own research I looked for people with the last name Tom.  Unfortunately by the time I started researching it was too late for me to ask my grandmother more questions.  It took me a while and a little bit of interviewing of family members to get the correct name.  It is Tomlinson.  That whole time of her telling me stories i just assumed their last name was Tom.  The family laughs about it now.

Have others come across this?  For some reason I have found memorial notices in the years after the death but sometimes there was never an original obituary.  It is still interesting to find but I usually doesn't have as much detail.  Usually a poem or short story.

Hi CU,

I am searching the same Wood family.

I am descended from William's sister Jane.  She is my 3rd great-grandmother.

Under the 1841 census the sister-in-law is actually William's sister.  The last name is Fox not Foy.  She married James Bean Fox.

I would love to compare more research with you if you would like.  I'd love to see what you have.  This family has been a bit hard for me to track down.

Do you have any information on the parents or on the sister Jane?  I have seven children in total for William and Sarah Wood.

Is the Eagle Inn still standing?  Any photos?

Thanks.   :)
