Not seen one son since Christmas 2018.
We phone but not the same is it.
Was hoping to see latest great grandchild ,due to arrive on Nov 2nd.
But safety first.
I should say great grand daughter ,,it is known the baby is a girl.

I was supposed to travel tomorrow ,but have cancelled ,the invalid I was to visit has carers attending and one has tested positive,so no sense going.
Grand daughter due to come on her Birthday,30. th,
Not sure about that now either.

People are genuinely confused , one thing seems to laugh at another.
Not making plans for Christmas ,was,by choice , alone last year - perhaps that will be best this year too.

They pass the gable wall of my house along an unadopted lane.
Can’t leave anything alone!
I have to make sure any washing of a personal nature is not still on the line, nighties ,underslips ,undies etc ,the comments!
The girls’ language as bad as the boys’.
If no washing the language is still dreadful and no shame about saying  loudly and openly what they get up to!
I try not to be outside..
The Primary school children are very naughty about messing with other peoples’ property.
I dream of a big ,loud , but harmless dog jumping over the fence ,but there is a not busy, but nevertheless a road where few cars do go along it at the end of the lane .
Could be an accident if the children scattered .
They have no healthy respect for anyone it seems ,not parents, school, head teacher, Police ,so there is no discipline or control .

They are brought up to believe they are important.
Self confidence is good but not the levels of arrogance many display.
We won’t  change  it I am afraid.
Not all are like that but many are ,sadly.
So I have to bring in off the line before 3-15 my black lace stuff!
Likewise my winter coms and flannelette  nighties.
 Honestly!
Viktoria.

Such lovely pics of the twins Annette, they’re so sweet…
Sounds like your trip to York was enjoyable despite the biting wind. It’s such a wonderful place to visit… we went many years ago when our children were younger so 35yrs + I should think.. the Jorvik hadn’t been up and running for too long and our two were intrigued with the smells and sounds! Wonder if that’s still the case…

That’s Roobarb for your commiserations… they’re still waiting to hear the PCR results….
Well almost finished knitting a very simple teddy for new baby .
I will do a pink dress etc,
Did one for FH.
Was looking at photos as I dusted the other day ,a frame with multi places for photographs in one big frame.
One of FH with his teddy.

Well I am not going to Shropshire ,not heard from friend’s son re Covid testing results but will phone tomorrow ,after cancelling the hotel.
I think it best I don’t  go.
Daughter trying to organise Christmas,we would like us all to be together .
The way things are going that might not be possible .
I feel it would be wrong to travel to my daughter’s on a train.
A young fairly recently delivered mum might be very vulnerable.
Daughter will drive up I know but five hours in the depths of winter !
We will just have to wait and see.

Nice to read all the news, but so sorry some are having a tough time .        We   have all been careful  yet take Roobarb as example , so careful but still became ill. That really flabbergasted me!

Well I look as if I have visited the nit Nurse !
The hairdresser really scalped me, it is a nice cut but shorter than I wanted .
Ah well, next visit in late November but I can see it not needing to be done again so soon.

Waiting at the bus stop for a bus which was due but in fact was ten mins late.A group of young teenagers came to the stop.
The pavement is a bit narrow at that point and a big  waste bin is there also .
Well these kids were all over the place, so rude to passers by - Ramsbottom is busy on Saturdays - they blocked the pavement and one lad messing about, not looking bumped into a passing child who was pushed off the edge of the pavement .
The small boy’s father remonstrated ,the offender did not apologise but at least did not answer back but the whole group sniggered and laughed when the family had passed by.
Whatever is happening to some children!
One person on the bus made a comment , the group wanted “Child Day Savers” ,OK they were young enough, but boy oh boy—— !the way the girls were dressed. ,not children in that way.
One old lady- not me!- Said they were “ asking for trouble” ::)
Shorts so short and tops so low.

Oh dear I must be getting old or something .
Well time for bed ,Tesco delivery tomorrow so first job in the morning is  the   fridge  washed out etc,.
Such trouble getting into the Tesco site, kept refusing my password, then said unusual activity !
Have had to register a new password !

Re M&S Yes in Leeds I seem to remember.
So Goodnight and take care.
Viktoria.

I’ve had trouble with Tesco’s site too today as I wanted to book a slot for next week… I should think it’s causing utter chaos!
Wasn’t it M&S who started off as a penny bazzar….

I also found some other recordings where there seem to be three parts to the yell.
High  scream, low bark and full scream ,but I think those veterans would know better than anyone else.
I have a full set of the recorded programmes,Ken Burns and Shelby Foote which were on TV quite a few years  ago .
My son on a trip to The States, for work visited some battle sites, round shot littering the fields ,just lying in the surface .
Abraham Lincoln sent a letter to the people of Manchester or maybe itvwas Lancashire as a whole ,thanking them for refusing to work with slave produced cotton ,thus depriving the Confederates of much needed funds, and shortening the war .
However the cost to the people of Lancashire was truly heavy.
Fascinating history.

Yes ,if you can send photos of the hallmarks I have a book of all gold ,silver and platinum marks from 1544 to 1984 plus Sheffield plate 1743 to 1860.
Each year is a different letter then after 26 years it starts again but letters of a different style .
Each Assay office has a different symbol ,London a leopard ,Chester three wheatsheaves ,Birmingham an anchor etc.

Be careful , often some valuers will want to buy,so it is in their interest to undervalue.

Brass Band Concert in our Church in November .
Whitworth , Prize Band, near Rochdale.
Our organist  of over 60 years was the son of the Bandmaster of Stubbins Vale Prize Band .
Behind the huge organ in church there are big cupboards ,full of hand written band parts ,each instrument .
Done by the organist’s father  .Very many years ago.
The organ is a marriage of some original parts and some from an organ at Brompton Oratory. Our organist used to “give it some welly,”and your fillings would rattle !We would ask his wife” What have you put in his tea this morning.?”
Had a lot of work done just before lockdown but will be in poor state I am sure ,lack of heating and use.
The organist ,very ill ,had to be taken home from church ,just a day or so before he died. What a loss.
He taught half the kids in Ramsbottom to play the piano including my daughter.

Such changing times ,and so quickly do the changes come.
I am waiting to see “ If you need this message in Braille email ————“ then I can really explode!
The smallest print on documents advising people  with sight problems of alternative ways receiving important communications.!

Wonder how The Queen is?
What a lot of heartache for her after her years of service to this country,
Watched some of the service in Ireland.
Quite impressive.

Had a visit from the people who installed and service my alarm.
It seemed to go off when I heard car door slam and as if someone was putting their car alarm on which mine picked up .The battery in the outside front box was low.
I could not work out what it exactly was but a low battery could not have been sorted by me , up ladders ,quite high!

Nice day today ,sunny and mild.

Belgian pension forms sent off by son ,tracked ,they get into a post box in the Tax office and sit there for days ,deadline Nov 4 th.
Post is seemingly quite slow so can’t afford a delay.

Not heard from friend’s son re Covid but I think it is best I don’t go .
On a train etc ,lots of people not wearing masks.
Forecast is at least another year before we are out if this ,thank heavens for RootsChat !
Look after yourselves folk .
Viktoria,

P.S started this post this morning ,just finished it now at 6-55 so must read earlier posts now to see other’s posts .

Yes ,thanks for the link.
There is some footage of ex Civil War soldiers ,and they are asked to do the famous yell that terrified and demoralised the opposing troops .
Sadly they were very old and it was a feeble shadow of what it must have been .
I am trying to find an actual recording of the song “Loreena” sung by both North and South but eventually banned as it made the men homesick ,many were within walking distance of their homes  before some famous battles and desertions were high .
I suppose recording was in its infancy when many veterans were very old , and no one thought to make one.
I have heard a modern recording .
 Thanks again.
Viktoria.
