Armed Forces / Royal Lancaster Regiment 1903 Manchester
« on: Tuesday 26 September 17 21:58 BST (UK)  »
My relative 5572 John Price (from Hulme, Manchester) signed on a short service enlistment with the Kings Royal Rifle Corp in October 1903.

He stated he was in the Royal Lancaster Regiment (Militia??) at this time....it looks like 19th? or 12th? (eligible)

Why would he sign up if already with Royal Lancaster???

World War One / WW1 Medals
« on: Monday 25 September 17 19:27 BST (UK)  »
I have recently confirmed my Great Grandfather as Pte 2519 Thomas Price Lancs Fusiliers.

Thomas enlisted September 1914 and sadly dies 8th April 1915 in Cairo.

I beleive the MoD wont issue medals any longer unless they were returned.

Given my Great Grandfather died oversees i do wonder if his widow ever saw the medals he was due.

Anyway I want to buy replacements for my Dad to keep so Ive uploaded an image of his medal entitlement and would appreciate it if somebody would confirm the 3 medals I need to purchase (assuming I can apply to MoD)

World War One / Pvte 5572 John Price - Kings Royal Rifle Corp Enlisted October 1903
« on: Monday 25 September 17 13:46 BST (UK)  »
I am researching my great x 2 Uncle John Price Born circa 1883 Hulme Manchester.

He enlisted in the Kings Royal Rifle Corp in October 1903 and was given service number 5572.

On his Short Service Attestation he states he was already in "the militia" and in response to Q10 states "3rd - Btn?? - Royal Lancaster Rg?"

By 1911 he is married still living in Hulme but as i understand it he will have been enlisted as part of the recruitment drive at the outbreak of WW1.....can anyone add a little more info to John and his military career???

Lancashire / Mary Ann Stone Born C 1880
« on: Saturday 15 July 17 12:39 BST (UK)  »
I`m trying to trace the exact birth of my great grandmother Mary Ann Stone who was born around 1880.

She married Thomas Price in Hulme Manchester in 1902 aged 21.

She remarried in 1917 again in Hulme to a Walter Jones when she was aged 36.

Her father was John Stone ( Cab Driver) I believe her mother was Mary Bailey.

I cant find the family in the 1881/ 91/ 1901 census .

Cheshire / Boatman Cheshire / Manchester
« on: Tuesday 11 July 17 21:17 BST (UK)  »
My great x 2 grandfather was born Lymm c1871.

In 1894 he is living in Hulme Manchester when he marries Elizabeth Barnes.

On the wedding certificate he is shown as a Boatman as was his father William Born Middlewich (deceased at time)

I imagine the Lymm-Hulme connection derives from the Bridgewater Canal given the Boatman occupation.

Are there any research records available in respect of Boatmen or Bridgewater Canal etc???
