Sue,

Thank you so much for all the info.  It has been wonderful.  Had no idea there were five boys and that three of them were in the Wars, 1st and 2nd.  Have checked all the War records, cemetery in Thailand.  Fancy one of them having worked on the Burma Railway and been a POW.

I had been told they lived up near the Qld. border for a time - seems like a long time!  No idea there were twins either.

The Family Tree and Sands info was great too.  Now I will check and see if I can find marriages for them all, other than Alexander who is buried with his wife in Legume cemetery.  His parents there too.  I did notice a death for Alfred in 1956 but was not sure if it was him or not.  However, I do know his parents names so I guess I can now confirm that is him.

Finding children could be a little trickier!!  However, did find a relative only last week after having seen her mother's death/funeral in the SMH.  Contacted the funeral directors (this was 2006) and they made contact with the daughter who in turn got in touch with me!!  We have already met!

All the War records made interesting reading, particularly Brice who deserted for a while!!

Thanks again.

I have been trying to find out more on the family of my great aunt, Elizabeth Frances Thomas,
sometimes she is given the third Christian name as Dawson (b. 1866 Bathurst)  Her parents were William and Mary Sarah Thomas

She married Alfred William Farmer (b. Braidwood c.1863) in Balmain in 1888.

I believe they had three children:
Alfred Francis Sym b. 1890.  Cannot find a marriage in NSW or a death for him.
Charles Henry Roy b. 1892.  Again no marriage in NSW, but died Manly 1964.

There is apparently a third son but can find no trace of him.  Thought they might have lived in Qld as I believe they were up the far north coast of NSW for some time.

Mother Elizabeth died 1950 but no idea where.

Can anyone shed any light on this family please?

Jorose,

Thank you for the info on Pauline Chapple.  I had seen the notice on the Ryerson Index, but not the other articles.  She has one daughter, so now to locate her!!

Thanks again,

Thank you Sue and Mik,

Your information has been really great.  As a result I checked BDM (although I did have the first three children of Gertrude and John McPherson).  I have also applied for several death transcriptions which should show children and spent an afternoon at Sydney library checking death notices in the SMH.  Hopefully between the lot, this will enable me to locate descendants of Gertrude.

Can't find anything more on the Soutter family along with a couple of other children.  Seeing they seem to have been in Lismore for some time, perhaps they went north to Queensland rather than to Sydney!

Still nothing on her sister Isabel though, but that may come if I can find a living relative of Gertrude.
Thank you again,

Thanks Ev,

I did not have a wife for Andrew Gowans, nor a birth date for Isabella.  It certainly is a possibility.

Going to Scotland later in the year, I would love to find some "living" relatives first!!  Not an easy task I know!!

I have been flat out all week, so will go into this further on the weekend, but at least wanted to acknowledge your help.

I am trying to locate Joseph Staples who married Mary Sarah Corrie in Castlereagh Street, Sydney in Oct. 1880.

Mary had been married previously to my g. grandfather and had a number of children.  She and Joseph had two daughters, Isabel May Staples who married Henry Vincent Allen in 1903.  The other daughter was Louise Gertrude Staples who married John B. McPherson in Sydney 1903 and to my knowledge had 3 sons.

I know nothing more than that, but would dearly love to make contact with descendants of the two daughters of Joseph and Mary Sarah.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone please help me to find children of James McDougall b. May 1823?  He married Isabella Gowans in Nov. 1845 at Rothesay, Bute.

I know they had one son Dougal McDougall who is my g. grandfather.  He was born about 1852 in Rothesday, Bute.

James' parents were Dugald McDougall and Ann Stirling.  They married in January 1819, Rothesay, Bute.

Dugald must have had siblings but I am not aware of any.

Dugald and Ann had six children - Alexander, Archibald, James, Hannah, John and Grace between 1819 and 1834.

I would be grateful for any help.
