Thank you Suevize,  I had not thought of that, so will check out contact details for the Seventh Day Adventists in Tarawa.

Cheers,

Australia / Shirley Maude Goode
« on: Tuesday 06 December 16 09:43 GMT (UK)  »
Shirley Maude Goode was the daughter of Richard Goode (d. 1968) and Elma Maude Hall (d.1988).  She had a sister Julie E Goode.  Richard and Elma both lived in Kensington, Sydney, NSW.  Shirley married Alfred Edward Fealy (d. 2005) and Shirley died in 1994.  They had three sons, one of whom I believe is now deceased.  I am looking to find any descendants of Shirley and Alfred.

Can anyone help?

Hi Brenda,

I have just tried to send you a PM on Rootschat, but it bounced back as your Inbox is "Full".

Can you let me know when you are back on Rootschat as I wanted to be in touch regarding the Corrie family in Gilbert Islands.

My apologies for being off "the air" for so long but I am now back into researching the Corrie family.

Last year we visited Fiji and the Suva Corries held a large get-together for me, with over 100 attending.

Hopefully you are all happy to keep in touch re this family again.

Cheers,

Hi Genene,

I did send a reply to you this morning, but I am not 100% sure it has gone through to you.  I would love to catch up with you via email or phone if that is possible.  I have a lot of information on Gertrude's mother's family, having been researching it for quite some time.  It has only been in recent years that I discovered she had remarried and had two daughters, Gertrude and Isabel.  Her first husband died but my cousins and I think she had actually separated from him a little while before he passed away.  She then married Joseph Staples.

Cheers,

Hi Airwalker,

Thank you for the information on your great grandfather, Alexander (Alick) Robert Farmer.  I had found a marriage for him to Eileen but no idea about any of their children.  I would very much like to know more about the family.  I have found marriages for both Stanley and Ralph, but not confirmed that they are correct.  I would be very grateful for any help you can give me to trace the Farmer family.

I have been concentrating on my husband's European relatives over the past year but I would really like to return to my family.

Maeri,

Thank you for your information re the death certificates.  Alexander and Benjamin did die in Fiji and although I have now obtained death dates (thanks to descendants I have located in Australia), I have had no luck with the other children of Robert.  As far as I know, there is a Registry in Tarawa, Kiribati, but it is very difficult to find an address to write to and even then, I am not sure how helpful they would be.  They have probably never been asked for this information in the past!  I would also like to know which of Robert's children from his second marriage were the ones who drowned with him in 1915.

Cheers

Hi there,
My apologies for taking a while to acknowledge your chat but there has been a lot going on in my family, including the sudden death of my mother-in-law.
I knew Robert Corrie had a daughter Mita, I think from his second marriage.  Robert and his second wife and two of their children drowned in 1915 between Tarawa and Maiana Islands, a trip he had no doubt done hundreds of times before.  His daughter Agnes (from Robert's first marriage) indicated this in an article she wrote for a Pacific Islands magazine.
I know very little of the children of the 2nd marriage, other than their names, although I did meet a descendant of one of Robert's daughters when she visited Sydney earlier this year.
Alexander and Benjamin Corrie were two of Robert's sons from his first marriage and some of their descendants are living in Queensland now and I have met them.
I would certainly be interested in any information your Mom can give me regarding Robert Corrie's children.  Do you know the names of the ones who drowned with him?
I have tried to find a Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Tarawa without success, but I am sure there must be records of some sort kept there.
Perhaps there is a Corrie family member in Kiribati who is interested in the family history?

Cheers,

Hi Talei,
Lovely to hear from you.  I have actually stayed with a granddaughter of Alex Corrie in Brisbane and we keep in touch frequently.

I am actually going on holidays in less than 2 weeks but when I return, I will get back in touch with you.  Recently I met my first relative from Kiribati who stayed with me when visiting Australia.  She was the granddaughter of Agnes Corrie who was Alex Corrie's sister.

Do you still live in Kiribati?  If so, I wonder what you know of Alex Corrie's father.  His name was Robert Corrie and both he and his wife and two of their children drowned in 1915 between Tarawa and Maiana.

I will be in touch with you again as soon as possible.
