Australia / Milton F DRAKE
« on: Friday 21 April 23 06:40 BST (UK)  »
Milton F DRAKE b. c.1936, d. c.1989 m. Hazel E FORD b. c.1935, d. 2004.  I have been unable to find a birth or marriage for them in NSW or Victoria.  They had several children, one  being Cheryl Anne Drake, b. 1949 (possibly NSW) and d. 2016, possibly NSW.
Milton's father was Lesley DRAKE b. c. 1900 and he married a lady named 'Marg'.  Don't know if that is short for Margaret/Marjorie etc.
Lesley d. c.1985 and Marg c. 1990.
Any information on Milton and Hazel and their daughter Cheryl, would be appreciated.

Australia / Joseph BROWN married Emma PRESSICK
« on: Friday 21 April 23 06:30 BST (UK)  »
I have been doing some research for a friend on the above family.  I believe that Joseph was born c. 1787, Loftus, Yorkshire and died c. 1850 same place. I think I have found his father, Robert BROWN, b. c.1750 with Joseph's mother being Mary COOKE, b. c.1756.
Joseph and Emma had 4 children to my knowledge - Pressick c.1842, Emma c.1844, William c.1845 and Charles c. 1846.  All born in Loftus/Lofthouse, Yorkshire.  No deaths for Joseph and Emma or any of those children.
Any information on this family would be very much appreciated.

Neale 1961, Apologies, you are correct that my initial request was for Robertson/Urie.  Any info required on the McDougall line I will ask at a later date.

The Witnesses to the marriage of Janet Robertson &  Dougal McDougall appears to be David Gowans and Agnes (possibly Rogs).  The minister seems to be T.F. Mathieson. Writing not clear.

The Ship they emigrated on was the "Chimborazo" of Liverpool.  London to Sydney 14/6/1881.

No, it is not them on the "Northumberland"

The Ancestry Census 1871 at 287 London Road is definitely them and the Agnes Gowans listed in that Census would be the mother of Isabella.  She married James McDougall.

I don not have confirmed deaths for either James or Isabella

Agnes (Ann) (nee Parker) married Andrew Gowans.   I have a birth for her about 1788 but nothing on Andrew.  Agnes may have died in 1887 at London Rd. Glasgow, but again, not confirmed.  No death for Andrew either.

I had not heard of John Urie and Janet Risk, so thank you for that info too.

The "conflict" was just on the dates of birth of Agnes being either 1834, 1836 or 1838.  I don't feel that the parents would have been Robert and Ursilla, but John and Janet as in the 1841 and 1851 census you gave me.

The parents of James McDougall who married Isabella Gowans (m. Nov 1845, Rothesay, Bute) were :

Dougald (note spelling) McDougall and Hannah "Ann" Stirling.  They married 1819 and had 6 children, all born in Bute.  At least this is what I have been led to believe.

Thank you so much everyone for your help.  Very much appreciated.

Marriage was 27 April, 1875 at 690 Gallowgate, Glasgow, after Banns ? to the ? of the Congregational Church.
Dougal was 22 and Janet was 19.  Their usual address for both was 287 London Road, Glasgow.
His father was James McDougall, Cotton Spinner Operator and mother was Isabella Gowans.
Janet's parents were David Robertson, Engine Smith ? and mother was Agnes Robertson, nee Urie.
Marriage was registered 29 April, 1875 at Glasgow. (District of Camlachie)
Their first three children, daughter and two sons were born in Glasgow and the other 8 children were born in Sydney, NSW.  They arrived in Sydney 1882.

Scotland / Robertson - Urie marriage
« on: Wednesday 01 March 23 23:56 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to go back further for records of the above couple.
David Robertson (b. 1835, Lanark, Scotland) married Agnes Urie (b. 1838, Lanark)

I have two children of the marriage (but feel there would certainly be more).  Janet was my G. Grandmother and I have her marriage and children.  I have also found marriage of David to Jane Crawford Morrison and their two children, David Urie and John Robertson.

Any information on David and Agnes (i.e. their parents, deaths etc.) would be very much appreciated and also if there are more than the two children noted above.

Thank you,
