Hi ...I registered my sons birth at Stroud Maternity Gloucestershire in 1996 where the registrar still visited, so the practice was still happening then, although my son was born in Gloucester Royal Hospial, we were transfered back to our local small maternity.

Hi.....not had much experience with this side of researching but how about contacting the local city council to see if they hold any of the records or who owned or ran the home.

Or maybe going into the local county records office and have a look at the electoral roles which may give you the name of the person who was in charge of the home at the time and maybe try and trace that way.

Or putting an advert in the local paper in the letters column to see if anyone has any work connections there or any local knowledge of the home, prob a sensitive subject but you may get some info.

Please keep in touch and be interested to hear how you get on or if you need anymore sounding boards, although not sure if you can personal message me until you have made a couple more posts, but have a try.

In the meantime I will do a little research of my own for anymore ideas.
Good Luck.....Helen.

Thank you so much for the ideas.

I think a trip to Surrey is needed for the electoral roles.

I will google earth Woodlands to have a lookie, but the Parsons Measd school records no go as she was a servant working there and not a pupil.

Regards again....Helen x
