World War One / Re: Charles Frederick Challis, Unable to Locate Army Records
« on: Sunday 21 May 17 11:05 BST (UK)  »
There is a MIC for a Charles F Challis who served in the Royal Engineers, Army Ordnance Corps and Royal Warwickshire Regiment. The numbers do not match however. If your Challis didn't serve overseas he would not have been awarded medals and so would not have a Medal Index Card.

Tipperary / Re: MULLALY - Mullinahone
« on: Sunday 16 April 17 10:09 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone out there have any connection with the MULLALY(s) of the Mullinahone area. I have good reason to believe that my ancestors could well have left this part of Ireland for England and changed their name to my maiden name, MULELLY. This happened over time during the 19th C. Would love to hear from anyone looking for similar families.  Kate.

This may be of interest to you

Tipperary / Re: St Mary's Protestant Church, Clonmel, Tipperary

Hi aghadowey & jaybelnz.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.
I have followed Aghadowey's links and can find the graveyard list of occupants. I assume that this list has been created from a survey of the graveyard. Would you know if the birth the parish registers (baptisms, marriages and burials) still exist.

jaybelnz: When I looked on the Internet I did the same as you I found the Catholic Church insted of the Church of Ireland.
Once again thanks for your help
Regards
The Wirral Way

I heard several years ago that the church records had suffered some water damage. As far as I know the records are still kept in the church.  You could also try the Registrar's office in Clonmel since Protestant records began earlier than Catholic ones as far as I know.

Only my maternal grandfather was from Clonmel, and his family had moved out to the country by about 1920. Most of us moved back in to the town in the 80s. Our grandparents may have been acquainted :)

Sorry for high-jacking the thread but where is the Clonmel Chronicle available to search?

The Local Studies Section of Tipperary Library in Thurles. Microfilm only, it's not online as far as I know

Tipperary / Irish Army Census 1922
« on: Wednesday 14 November 12 14:46 GMT (UK)  »
The Irish Army conducted a census in November 1922. This has been put online by Military Archives this week. Link below.

http://www.militaryarchives.ie/collections/online-collections/military-archives-irish-army-census-records/map

UnfortunaTely you cannot yet seach by name and have to click on the map by location for a scanned document. The names aren't necessarily in alphabethical order either. Still it's quite interesting as it includes the soldiers home address and NOK.

There also appear to be locations missing. Waterford city for instance definitely had a barracks but it isn't on the map.

I believe they were in Glenconnor and built after WW1.
