Hi Cando,
Was the ward of the state around in 1897?  I know of children just being taken in by neighbours or other relatives.
The Challie from around Esk I always thought were related to Ernest's wife Eva but maybe they were his relations as I was told he was with them since birth,?
   Thanks for all your help
  Macca

Hi Dundee,
Thanks for the extra info, Could Evelyn McFarlane died in childbirth on board?
David Walker Smith was Eva McFarlane's father.
I think Ernest worked away quite a bit in their eairly years.

Regards Macca.

Hi Krisesjoint,
Sorry if I've not explained it clearly. Earnest William Henry McFarlane was born in 1897 the year his parents both died aboard ship to Australia, as the story goes.
Yes that was Earnest's death notice he died in 1952, I was actually brought by him and his wife Eva.
Out of intrest I was trying to trace his ancestry, I know that the Fitz Clarence is given to the son but have presumed Evelyn Fitz Clarence was one of his offspring.  I have tried the census in U.K. but unable to find either Patrick or Evelyn, or the ship they came out on. Thanks for your help am still finding my way around.

Hi Yahn, Yes I am related to David. I was brought up by David's grandparents Ernest. and Eva . Have been looking for Patrick and wife for last 2 years, Have also been told that Ernest was  a twin and there were other siblings one in New Zealand,
Was Ernest Illigitamate and giving himself a back ground? He was brought up by a family called Challie who owned race horses  near Beaudesert in Queensland, have been unable to find them either. We are going to Queensland Xmas so will catch up with David and his Mum then. I am 2nd cousin to David.

Looking for information on Patrick McFarlane and wife Evelyn nee FitzClarence. who both died at sea 1857 on way to Australia from U.K Son Ernest William Henry McFarlane born at sea 27 May 1879, may have been 1 of twins. Don't know where they came from or what ship they were on, Have checked census in U.K but nothing found.

Hi,
Am looking for Patrick McFarlane who died at sea in 1879 and his wife Evelyn Fitz Clarence who also died at sea, have not been able to find out anything about them thought I might have found them on a ships list or something! My great uncle was born on the trip and was a twin they were coming to Australia I believe there were other children. Ernest William Henry McFarlane was my great uncle he was raised by a family in Queensland Australia. We are not sure where Patrick and family left from but have been told Evelyn was related to the Duke of Clarence?
