WOW !! Thanks so much everyone for all your help and for turning up so much information I'd  missed, (which with a name like Aleathea isn't surprising, not to mention the mixed transcription of her wedding place).  Anyway, I'll go away and digest it all now Thank you again.  :D :D :D :D

Thank you Pauline....  I'm still a bit confused about her birth though with the name Edwards ? Also on her Death record, her birth is shown as March 1921. Also why would the Marriage to John F BURNEY be in both Sleaford, Lincs and Salford Lancs ?  The one in Salford was probably an RC Church which would explain the presence of a Registrar.  Also, I couldn't find her birth in the GRO Index either  :) :) :)

Can someone please help me find this elusive lady ?  She was born in March 1921, and married a John F BURNEY in 1940 (which is registered in both Sleaford, Lincolnshire and Salford, Lancashire).  She appears on the 1939 Census in Yorkshire as an Assistant Nurse (but I can't read the address). She later married a Leslie WIDDOWS, and died in 1998. I can't find her birth anywhere, and as she was a Nurse, wonder if she came from Ireland ?  Many thanks. ??? ??? ??? ???

Sorry folks but I've gone back as far as I can with this one.

I have the Marriage Certificate for William VAUGHAN and Sarah Frances METCALFE in 1885, I’ve laboured long and hard to find his father, but, unfortunately, he didn’t appear anywhere, and without this information I couldn’t go back further down the VAUGHAN line, which is very disappointing and frustrating.  However, these things happen (especially in Welsh Genealogy) and I’ve had to admit defeat and accept the inevitable on this particular occasion.

The two main reasons for this are, 1) Williams’s mother (Jane VAUGHAN) was single when she had him around 1859 in Hope, and 2), also, she was illegitimate when she was baptized on 22 July 1838 in Hope. Then to add to the confusion, after she married John HUGHES in 1863, William variously appears as HUGHES & JONES in various Census Returns, ‘muddying the waters’ even more.  He even gave his  Father’s name as John VAUGHAN on his Marriage Certificate, when in fact, his step-father John HUGHES was actually a Witness.. So you can see what a minefield it’s been trying to get a handle on the correct information.

The JONES name came about because he spent most of his life with his Grandmother, Sarah JONES (nee’ VAUGHAN) who  married Griffith JONES in 1844 in Great Boughton, and Jane VAUGHAN was her illegitimate daughter born in 1838 in Hope. Consequently, it wasn’t possible to find Sarah VAUGHAN’s father either because she was born around 1814, and official records didn’t begin until 1837.

Thanks again everyone.
Anne

Thank you everyone for your sterling work on my behalf - it's much appreciated !  I can now piece together some of the facts I already had, ie:  Henry WILLIAMSON (who came from a well-known Salford family) moved to Conington, married Rose SPARKES, and had a daughter, Rose WILLIAMSON, and she was the mother of the Rev Henry NEWCOME.  Because the WILLIAMSON family are my ancestors, I've been trying to trace Henry's birth in order to link him in, and I suspect it will continue to be difficult. :D :D :D :D

If it's any help, Rose WILLIAMSON married Stephen NEWCOME in ???, Rector of Caldicote, and their fourth Son was the REV. HENRY NEWCOMBE (b.1627), who was the famous Diarist. Both Rose & Stephen died in 1642.
