Elin...

Your finding of two more of Thomas and Hannah Guthrie's children was totally unexpected. You are to be commended for the time, and effort, you have put into all of this. I know everyone interested in Guthrie genealogy will appreciate your work, and knowlege, of where to search for information. We ceratinly are indepted to you, Elin.

I sincerely hope you are feeling better by the time you read this, Elin. Getting sick is no fun, and I hope your recovery is swift.

Reid Guthrie

Hi Reid Guthrie,

I did some more look ups today.  I went through the records for Salem Chapel and found that the Chapel didn't open until 28the September, 1791.  I found two more of Thomas and Hannah's children.

Joseph Guthrie son of Thomas and Hannah  born December 1798 and baptised 13 June 1799

William Guthrie son of Thomas and Hannah born December 11 1795 and baptised 17 January 1796.

I will go back and take copies and look at St Peter Parish records.  I didn't manage to do all I meant to today because I suddenly felt ill and had to go home.

Best wishes,

Elin

Thank you Carolanne, for this information. Thomas, Elizabeth, and William are all Guthrie family names, and I would be willing to bet there is a connection here someplace. If this Thomas Guthrie came from Ireland, or Scotland, would he have been not of this country on the 1841 census?

The only thing thing that might tie Thomas with Northumberland and Leeds is if Elin can find the marriage records which might give his fathers name
Information for Northumberland
Thomas Guthrie
Birth 20 May 1767 Baptism 25 May 1767 West Chapel Presbyterian N c Wooler Northumberland.
Father William Guthrie Mother Elizabeth.
In the 1841 census  it doesn't give his birth place but it does say not of this county there is also a Elizabeth living with them I'm presuming its there daughter ? Hannah would have been 45 its has been known.

Yes Elin, please check in the archives for all information you can find.

Yes I think that he has the 1841 census info.

I think it could be the right Bradford family, trouble is that I don't know how you actually can be sure! If Reid Guthrie wants me to check in the archives to see if there is any more detail then I will.  It may have the area of Leeds that they are from.  Having the dates already will make it easy.

Thank you Carolanne for this information. Would there be any information that might tie the Thomas Guthrie in Northumberland, to The Thomas Guthrie in Leeds? I believe you have found that Hannah Bradford's parents, are William Bradford, and Mary patrick, thank you so much...

I'm not finding anything local for Thomas Guthrie only one coming up is in Northumberland ?
Can see a marriage for a William Bradford to a Mary Patrick 17 May 1773 Saint Peter Leeds
Which would fit with the birth for Hannah

Elin

Any information you find on the Guthrie, or Bradford, families will be appreciated. I believe Thomas Guthrie was the first of the Guthrie's to live in/near Leeds. I would like to find where he moved from, where he was born, who his parents were, if he had any siblings and who they were.

I will have a look for you during the week.

St Peter Parish Church is the parish church of Leeds and is at the edge of the city centre, near the markets and bus station. It's a lovely church.  Salem was a small chapel also on the edge of Leeds going towards Hunslet. The building is still there all though no longer in use as a chapel.

Elin :)

Yes, I have the information on Thomas Guthrie, and Hannah Bradford, from the 1841 census. Thank you for asking...

Is it the right Bradford Family then, I think I've seen Thomas Guthrie and Hannah in the 1841 census do you know if Reid has got that info

I believe Salem Chapel, and St. Peter Parish Church are in Leeds, about the city center.

I have no idea what Specsavers are.

I am seeking any information that can be found pertaining to Guthrie's, Bradford's, Thomas Guthrie, and Hannah Bradford. I am interested in their children, any baptism's, marriage's, death's, anything that will give a lead to the next generation of Guthrie's, and/or Bradford's. Thomas Guthrie, and Hannah Bradford, may be the first generation of this Guthrie  family to move to Leeds and I would like to find where they came from if possible.

Where are the Salem Chapel and St Peters Parish Church situated or do i need to make an appointment at Specsavers
