I am going to post a new request. A request for information on Thomas Guthrie, and Hannah Bradford, from the Salem Chapel, and St. Peter Parish Church records.

Reid Guthrie,

Fantastic result isn't it!

It is amazing how often rootschat appears in the first few results of a google search. Next time someone searches for your ancestor's names, your post will appear and you may be contacted by new cousins!

This happened to me three times within a couple of months last year. It's very exciting!

Incidentally, I forgot to mention, I did a Google search for information on the Leeds, England, Salem Chapel, and the RootsChat web site came up with references to the comments made about the Salem Chapel in my request for the parents of Mary and Ebenezer Guthrie. It was the fifth line down. You guys really get around, it's outstanding...

Hi Reid Guthrie,  :)  We got him!!

Leeds Salem Chapel.

Ebenezer - son of Thomas and Hannah Guthrie.  Born March 4th 1806 - Baptised March 30th 1806

Mary - daughter of Thomas and Hannah Guthrie.  Born March 4th 1803  - Baptised April 10th 1803

Thomas - son of Thomas and Hannah Guthrie.  Born September 20th 1800 - Baptised  November 9th
1800.

I have taken copies and can send you them if you pm me your email. Not sure how well the will show up.

I'll check out the marriage that you have for Thomas and Hannah as well.  I didn't have the info with me today.

Thanks for the advice Kathy, I wouldn't have started at Salem Chapel if you hadn't suggested it. ;)
Best wishes,

Elin

Thank you, one and all, for all your kind efforts in finding the parents of Mary and Ebenezer Guthrie. They are Thomas Guthrie and Hannah Bradford, as was pointed out. Ruskie was the first to reply to my request, Elin picked up the ball and ran with it, Trish supplied information on Mary Ann Land,s family, and KathyM supplied the direction needed to make the discovery. You guys are all wonderful, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your efforts. I am more than thrilled with this discovery, I am speechless...

Elin..

You have already done more than anyone could expect in helping to find the parents of Mary and Ebenezer Guthrie. You are so kind to volunteer to do even more, that words fail me in expressing my gratitude for your efforts. Bless you Elin..

The following is what I know:

Ebenezer died 15 Nov. 1875, at 11 Kent Street, South East Leeds. His son Thomas was in attendance. His death was registered 16 Nov, 1875. Would he have been buried close to where he died?

Kathy M pointed out she found that there was a marriage at Leeds Church in 1794 for Thomas Guthrie, and Hannah Bradford. Thomas and Hannah are Guthrie family names during this period. Could this be a lead for Mary and Ebenezer Guthrie's parents? Mary would have been born nine years after this marriage, and Ebenezer twelve years after this marriage. Ebenezer had children named Thomas, and Hannah, perhaps after these folks even.

Thank you again, Elin, for your kind efforts in finding these parents. You are certainly someone special...

Reid Guthrie

Hi RG,

I was wondering if you know where Ebenezer is buried.  I was wondering if there may be
any other family graves close by, with any other family information.

I'm going to spend some time in the library tomorrow and do some more searching.

H Reid Guthrie,

I searched all of the records that they have of St Marys' Church Hunslet, which isn't as huge as it sounds because they didn't  seem to have big  numbers of baptisms.   With St Peters I checked 4 years on either side of the date that you have for Ebenezer, I also searched 4 years each side in Armley.  It would be a big task to do more as they are huge registers.  I don't mind doing a bit at a time but it would be slow and of course no guarantees.  The other thing is that each area is covered by the I.G.I. and they aren't  shown on it.

Best wishes,

Elin

Elin,

Would your search for Mary and Ebenezer Guthrie's baptisms have covered a period from 1803 through 1825? I am primarily thinking about what you said about children being baptised when they were teenagers.

I am stumped again, and I don't have a clue where to search for Mary and Ebenezer Guthrie's parents. You have done all you can do Elin, and your efforts are greatly appreciated. I know you have worked hard and searched diligently for information. Bless you...

Hi RG,

I've done some more searching at the archives butI'm sorry to say that I haven't found anything on Ebenezer.  I checked the fiche for Mary Anns' siblings in the hope of finding further details but
they only give the info that you already have.

I don't know what else to suggest but do ask if there is anything else that you would like me to look up for you.

Best wishes,

Elin

I need to correct an error. Thomas Land was married to Anne Shirt, Oct. 20, 1802, not Anne Shirt Rothwell, sorry... I mis-read the information at www.maggieblanck.com

You were right Elin, I already had the information on Mary Ann Land. I looked again at the web site Trish had for us, the one at www. maggieblanck.com. According to that web site there could have been two Thomas Lands in 1805. One married to Anne Shirt Rothwell, Oct. 20, 1802, as Trish pointed out, and the other married to Ann Irish 1805. Thomas Land was the son of John Land, baptised Jan. 6 1783. (Leeds Parish Indexes) IGI. Also listed was Mary Ann Land, of Thomas Land, 24 March 1805. her baptism, (Leeds St. Peter Indexes) IGI. I am guessing that Mary Ann Land's mother was Anne Shirt Rothwell. I can not venture a guess who her siblings were, but I am sure you, Elin, have listed them. The information you have supplied has been very helpful, and I thank you for gathering all of it. I am sure all those interested in Guthrie genealogy will appreciate your kind efforts.

Sorry, Mary Ann Land was there, I just didn't add her because you already had the info.  She also resided in Kirkgate.   I just found the names in the printed records, with any luck the micro fiche might give the fathers occupation.

Best wishes,

El
