Hi,

There an Attestation record on Ancestry for a Charles William Gardiner, born abt 1870.  Enlisting in the Irish Rifles.

He gives his place of birth as HENLEY, Oxfordshire.  His enlistment appears to take place in Belfast in 1898.

There appears to be his next of kin....wife and children, but I cannot read the images.

There also seems to be a second set of papers, giving wifes name as Margaret Renwick, and marries at St.mary's Church in Newry, County Down. 12st March 1890 or 1894.

This may or may not be your man.

In 1881 he is actually a Scholar

No, nothing indicated there either.   The witnesses were Richard Collett and Richard Ellard(by his mark X.).

EDIT- There are some entries that indicate widow or widower in other marriages.

Just to verify something; does the Hampton Poyle marriage, or any of the marriages before and after it, specify the marital status of the bride and groom? I guess, in short, was the Thomas Harris that married Hannah Coleman a bachelor or a widower?

Nothing indicating status of bride or groom on the index, I'll have to check Hampton Poyle PR's.

Back in a mo. ;)

Hi SM.

2 burials in Islip.

Charles Harris - 8 months.  12th Mar. 1827. Could be the first Charles born.
Charles Harris - 1 year.  13th May  1838. (other twin maybe).

Hi S.M.

Went through Hampton Poyle baptisms, and none to Thomas and Hannah.

Also checked Hampton Gay just in case, still nothing.

As far as I can tell, the index covers the whole of Oxfordshire.

Sorry. :(

BUT.....

Islip baptisms.  All these children to Thomas and Hannah Harris.

Thomas. Sep 10. - 1820
George. May 28. - 1822
William. Aug 15. - 1824
Charles. July 30. - 1826
Hannah. Mar 14. - 1828
Mary. 20 Sept. - 1829
Eliza. Sept 21. - 1830
Esther. Sept 11 - 1832
TWINS - Charles and Charlotte. May 6 - 1837

No more children to them after the last date.

Two possible marriages from the oxfordshire index.

At Hampton Poyle - Thomas Harris to Hannah Coalman(of Bladon)  15th Oct 1817.

At Enstone - Thomas Harris to Hannah Smith. 25th Feb. 1821.

Where were they living in 1851.?
