Shropshire / Hounsom Family in Shropshire
« on: Wednesday 27 July 05 12:11 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for my family pre-1861. My GGgrandfather Henry Hounsom was born at Tong in 1848. He had older siblings also born at Tong and younger half-siblings born Tong and then later Wednesbury (Staffs).

The head of the family was Abraham Hounsom. Hoping they appear on the 1851 or 1841 census. The name is often mistranscribed as Honnsom, Hownsom and other strange variations.

Thanks

Library and FHS Lookups / Marriage Look-up Clerkenwell?? London
« on: Friday 22 July 05 15:07 BST (UK)  »
Searching for the marriage record of Edward Hounsom. Think was probably in Clerkenwell area of London around 1805/1806. Think wife's name was Susan.

Their first child was baptised Sept 1806 at the Providence Chapel, Tichfield Street, London. The next 3 at Spa Fields, Lady Huntingdons, and then the first born son in 1820 at Providence Chapel. At some point the family move up to Tong in Shropshire and in 1836 Edward marries again to a Susannah Sarah Walford who ssems to be a lot younger than him, being born 1805, only a year before his older daughter.

On all the later census returns, the son's place of birth is given as Clerkenwell so am assuming these 2 chapels were in that area.

So, a bit odd really, and any help with finding these records would be very much appreciated.

Thank you
Helen

Armed Forces / Help with Military record
« on: Monday 18 July 05 09:22 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the military records of my Gggrandfather, Henry Hounsom. I have followed the advice on the boards here and went to PRO on line and did a search for him but it came up with nothing. He was in the army from the late 1860s until at least 1901. I have him on the 1881 census in the Royal Artillery at Pembroke Dock. In 1891 and 1901 he is at Aldershot barracks where he is a 'conductor' in the army service corps. I can't find him in 1871 but he had 9 children born at Devonport, Pembroke Dock, Woolwich and then Aldershot - all have army bases I believe.

In the First WW, 2 of his sons were killed and appear on the CWWG site but I am assuming that Henry was too old by then to still be in the army but he was definitely still alive as a newspaper cutting about the death of one of his sons gives a private address for him in Aldershot. Would there be any pension records for him anywhere?

I don't know when he died but would really like to find this out.

Any help anyone can give me or any pointers whatsoever would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Helen

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Otter Family 1841 & 1851 Marton
« on: Thursday 23 June 05 12:39 BST (UK)  »
I wondered if anyone would be so kind as to look the following family up in the 1841 and 1851 census returns.

The head of the family was George Otter. I don't have his age or place of birth as by 1861 he seems to have disappeared - most likely died. His wife was Hannah and there were at least 3 children:

Sarah Ann b. 1837 Marton
Jemima Elizabeth b. 1839 Marton
Elizabeth b. 1842 Marton

I would be very grateful for any info on them from 41 or 51.

Many thanks

Rutland Lookup Requests / Bilsdon in 1841 Census
« on: Wednesday 15 June 05 08:56 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for John Bilsdon in 1841.

In 1851 he is living in Uppingham in Meeting Lane, aged 35. Gives his place of birth as Uppingham so I expect he was there in 1841 too. Am looking for his family members.

Am also looking for any other Bilsdon families in Rutland in 1841, particularly Ayston or Uppingham.

Any help much appreciated as always,

many thanks

Helen
