A long-shot but I've had a tough time with this section of my family as there are so many uncertainties so thought I'd post some info here in hopes that it will get noticed by anyone with connections ...

John Goggin married Isabella Caroline Fardell
Jun ¼ 1915 St George in the East

Ada I Goggin born 1919 Mile End.  Mother's maiden name Fardell.

John W Erickson born 1918 Mile end, Mother's maiden name Phelps.
John W Erickson was 'taken in' by family members after his mother died shortly after his birth and changed his name at some point to John W Miller, known as Johnny.

Ada Goggin married John W Miller 1941 Stepney and they both died in the 1990s in Hounslow.

Interested to trace connections with John Erickson/Miller and Ada Goggin.

Thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Hanging up my Moderator's Hat !!
« on: Thursday 04 January 07 19:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all

Just a short note to let you know that after 2 years I'm hanging up my Moderator's hat.

I've got a lot on over the next little while and I doubt I'll have enough time to do a proper Moderators job for London which takes quite a bit of looking after.

Of course although I'm posting this on the London Board I'd just like to thank everyone for making it a good 2 years and especially the many people who have contributed to making the London board informative, helpful and a cheerful place to be.

I'll still be lurking about as an ordinary member so you're not quite getting rid of me!

All the best and happy researching
Jonathan

Suffolk Lookup Requests / LESTER/REDDIT Marriage c1800
« on: Saturday 16 December 06 17:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I've been trying to sort this one out for ages and wonder if anyone can help though it's rather a longshot!

Basically I'm trying to find the marriage of William Lester/Lister and Charlotte Reddit I would imagine about 1800-1810?

I have this couple on the 1851 census:

Wetheringsett cum Brockford
WILLIAM LISTER age 71 born Wortham Suffolk
CHARLOTTE LISTER age 75 born  Garboldisham Norfolk (I think).

My direct descendent was their daughter Jemima b. Mellis 1805

I have this baptismal record of one of their children:
born 3 Jun 1813, baptised 7 Jun 1813, Rebecca daughter of William Lister & Charlotte Reddit, of Wetheringsett, occupation Husbandman, ceremony performed by Samuel Salmon.

I have quite a bit about William and Charlotte and their family (other census entries as well as deaths and burials seemingly the family lived in Wetheringsett for most of their later lives) but not their marriage.

I also have not found the baptism for Charlotte Reddit but will post that later on the Norfolk board.

Any help appreciated.

Antrim / Belfast street lookup please 1915-1920
« on: Thursday 16 November 06 11:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I'm wondering if anyone has access to resources which might show who was living at 14 Sherbrook Street, Belfast between 1915-1920.  I'm expecting/hoping there is a Webb or Wootley family there probably 1916/1917/1918.

William Webb was a soldier at Victoria Barracks when he married in 1917 and Sherbrook Street is given as his wife-to-be's address at the time.  As this is a London family I'm not sure how long his wife to be and children were in Belfast.

thanks for any help

Hello

In my desperate search for invisible John Street/Streat aged about 23 in 1841 and probably a builder of sorts, I'm wondering if someone would look through Wellesley Street and Compton Street, both in St Pancras - they are both very close to Euston Station.   His father is also named John.  I think both of these streets are thankfully quite short.

Appreciate any help.

The Lighter Side / Midland Grand Hotel St Pancras Station Virtual Tour
« on: Sunday 05 November 06 18:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

Just had to post this!

If you are a fan of Victorian architecture, building decoration, fabrics, tiling etc. this is a great tour around the restoration project of the hotel.  One of the finest surviving examples I think. Forgot to say, take a special look at the tile floors, the ceilings and the grand staircase !

Enjoy!

Completed Census Requests / XMAS 2006 Wills & Admons Lookup Offer (1858 onwards)
« on: Friday 03 November 06 19:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

A few people have asked if I will be repeating this annual offer and I've got a few to check out for myself so here goes ....

Within the next few weeks I’ll be making a trip to the Holborn Probate Office and will be happy to do some Wills and Admons lookups for fellow-Rootschatters who are not able to do lookups themselves ...

To make it fair 1 request per Rootschat member. It takes a bit of time to do each one, so I figure I’ll have time to do about 10.

The period covered is 1858 onwards for England and Wales.

You will need to provide the following information:

Individual’s name
Death Date
Age at Death
Place (address/institution/town) of Death
Marital Status
Occupation

To make identification even easier provide the following if you have the info:
Likely beneficiaries
Other helpful identification info

Note: that not everyone left a Will – experience from looking my relatives, indicate that the ones that actally left a will were reasonably well-established tradespeople but this is just my experience.

Note: I will not be able to get a copy of the Will or Admons for you, but will be able to let you know if one exists and some basic information (then you can order it yourself if you want to).  Check this link for further info: http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm
