Family History Beginners Board / Need help with Warren family
« on: Saturday 25 June 16 07:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi

The info I have is George Edward Warren married Mary Tennick in 1943 Durham Central.

There are 2 George Edward Warren's born in Co Durham; 1921 Gateshead with mother Blacklock & 1924 Weardale mother Sifflette (Siffleet).  I have been able to follow the Sifleet connection but do not think this is the correct family.
The Blacklock / Warren I have only been able to find a sibling Jessie and can't find who the parents were.  Can anybody help?

Many thanks
Carol

Hi

I'm looking for a look up for James Brinton who died March quarter 1919, Sedgefield (probably Winterton Hospital) in St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Stanley, Co Durham.

James was discharged from the Northumberland Fusiliers after suffering an accidental gun shot wound to the head but died a little more than a year later.
Many thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Problems with Parish Records
« on: Saturday 20 September 14 16:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Quite some time ago I did some research into the family Ward from Kibblesworth, Gateshead
and found parish records for Lamesley in Durham Records Office for this family.
I took copies of the original documents especially for George Ward baptised 25 Dec 1787 "Son of John Ward of Kibblesworth".
Today I have found a member on a genealogy site following the same family and they also have an original parish record for the same date that states "John, Son of John Ward of Kibblesworth".
Although normally I would have thought that maybe there were 2 children but the two entries before are identical!  The other difference is that on my copy the entries appear at the bottom of the page and on the other at the top of the page.

The transcription in Genuki appears as "George ch of George"
Can anybody help or make any suggestions as to why the names in the records differ.
Many thanks Anita

Samuel was my husbands Great Grandfather.  He was the son of George Henry Robinson Ward & Jane Ward (nee Kasher).  Husband of Emily (nee Bray).  Samuel was from South Moor, Stanley,
Co Durham and left behind a wife & 6 children.  Samuel enlisted in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and died as a result of mustard gas poisoning during operation 'Hush'.  He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
His brother Joseph Kasher Ward was a Sapper, Royal Engineers; he came home after the war but suffered from shell shock and spent the rest of his days in Winterton Hospital until he died in 1962.
(My login photograph is Samuel & his family)

James was my Grandmothers Uncle his body was never recovered and is remembered on the Ypes Memorial, Belgium.  I have the only remaining photograph of James and a letter he wrote on
3rd March 1917.  He was the son of William & Sarah Ann Stephenson from Kimblesworth,
Co Durham. He was a coal miner when at home and in his letter he tells the family that he "is in better health now than ever I was in my life and thats a fact"...
He is also mentioned on a brass plaque that was orinally in the Ex-servicemen's Club (now demolished) which is now in the Memorial Hall, Kimblesworth/Sacriston.

Family History Beginners Board / Two Adopted Children 1917
« on: Monday 16 June 14 17:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have just found a baptism record (8 March 1917) for a member of our family; Gladys Esther Rogerson Renfrey but on it it states the child is an 'adopted daughter' of George & Elizabeth (nee Priestman) it also has her birth as 15 Oct 1901 making her about 16 years old.

Also below, on the same day is a baptism for Rose Elizabeth, born 1 Dec 1902 adopted daughter of Southern Alderson Priestman (Elizabeth's brother) & his wife Esther (nee Rogerson).

I have found Southern lodging with George & Elizabeth in 1901c and he is married to Esther in 1911c but I can find no trace of the girls in either census or Esther Rogerson before her marriage.

Can anybody help me or advise me on how tracing adoption records work?

Many thanks
Anita

Family History Beginners Board / Missing in 1891 census
« on: Friday 14 February 14 09:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Hoping a fresh set of eyes or ideas may help for 1891c as I have been searching forever!

Hannah Maria Simm b1852 Bedlington, Northumberland widow (& family)
Hannah Maria Simm b 1877 Newcastle, Northumberland;
Charlotte Simm b 1880 Newcastle; John George Simm b 1882/83 Newcastle;
Ann/Annie b 1886 Newcastle.

I also looked to see if any family members had taken them in, and Hannah's sister Isabella Badger (husband James) is also evading me so maybe they are together?  The family have stayed in the Newcastle area and the children do appear in 1901c in various homes and institutions as Hannah dies in 1897.

thank you
Anita
