The Common Room / Problem with Bride's name on MC (Completed with thanks)
« on: Sunday 01 January 12 05:30 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone advise a way around this problem, please? I can find the record for the husband (Jeffrey Baynes m 1944 Newton Lancs) but the record doesn't show the bride's full name , just Filcher. When I search for a marriage for Filcher in the hope of the full name, I get zero results. Does this mean that the bride's name is illegible? Any help gratefully appreciated, and Happy New Year!

Australia / No Birth record, Sydney 1872 birth
« on: Tuesday 30 August 11 05:13 BST (UK)  »
Thomas Rice was born in Sydney in 1872, son of Thomas Rice and Charlotte Turrell (Tyrrell) but there is no record of his birth on BMD. The date of birth on his NSW Railways employment record has been altered from 10 May 1870 to 22 October 1872. I have considered that his parents may not have married until after his birth and have searched under his mother’s maiden and previous married names, I’ve searched in Queensland and Victoria as Thomas senior was an engineer working on coastal steamers.
Charlotte’s first marriage, to George Stephens in NSW, ended with his death about 1870. I assume that there was no other marriage as the birth certificate of Thomas’ younger brother Charles Henry born 1875, has his mother’s name as Turrell late Stephens.
Is it possible that a birth in 1872 could fail to be registered?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Australia / Independent Methodist, married at home
« on: Wednesday 03 August 11 01:14 BST (UK)  »
Having read majm's very informative piece on marriage certificates missing information, I hope someone can help me with this brick wall. My ggrandmother Elizabeth Bradley was married in 1868 at home in Rose Street Shepherd's Paddock by her uncle Nathaniel Pidgeon, "according to the rites of the Independent Church ". Nathaniel broke away from the Methodist Church and formed the Independent Methodists and in 1860 was licenced to perform marriages. The certified copy I have gives only the basic details (names, occupation, place of residence and conjugal status.)  She married William Collins about whom I know nothing before the marriage. Would any chatterer know where such original records might be preserved,, please?

Cheshire / Burial place for death in Sale 1911
« on: Wednesday 13 July 11 14:28 BST (UK)  »
My g'father died in Moorefield Terrace, Sale in 1911. Would anyone have any idea where he might have been buried? It would have been locally, I think, as he left a widow with numerous children and no money. Thanks, Fran

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / John Cope b. Crick 1814
« on: Monday 27 June 11 09:58 BST (UK)  »
John Cope stated on every census that he was born in Crick in 1814.(He lived in Wolstanton, Staffs until his death). A search of the Parish records from 1809-1815 could not find any record of his birth. Could anyone advise where else someone born in Crick might have been christened, please? Fran
