Census and Resource Discussion / How do I find the enumeration district.
« on: Thursday 03 February 22 10:52 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to discover the enumeration district for Castle Lane in Westminster, St Margaret’s.
Is there some site or other that can help. This is something I frequently come across needing when I have an address and parish.
I have followed a number of links from here and google but they go nowhere.

The Common Room / Asylum records
« on: Friday 28 January 22 11:17 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can find access to asylum records for the early 1900’s please?
Is this something that is accessible online or would I need to write to the local NHS of the area I am interested in?

My great, great, aunt, Selina Ward was admitted to Littlemore Asylum, Oxford, on the 1st December 1904 and died there on the 18th Nov 1917. I am interested to know for what reason she was admitted.

Whilst looking for the marriage of William Henry Rowland to Hannah (surname unknown), I came across this in the Westminster Marriages Sep 1848   1 419

The marriage of Hannah Burgertium and then the following possible spouses:

William Henry ROWLAND
William GARDINER
William SWINGLER
Uriah WRIGHT

I can find no record of Hannah Burgertium anywhere else.
Would the only way for me to confirm (or not) that Hannah married William Rowland be to buy the marriage certificate…or is there some other resources that I can look to for confirmation.
Many thanks and fingers crossed!

Kent Lookup Requests / St Margaret Lee Marriage Look Up DENTON
« on: Monday 17 January 22 19:19 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to Pennines, we know that the Kent Marriages and Banns on Find My Past shows
Samuel Denton (widower) married Elizabeth Jenkins (widow) on 30 June 1811 in Lee, St Margaret.
Is there any way I can find any more information…such as an actual image. I am trying to find Elizabeth’s original maiden name…if that is at all possible!

Kent / St Michael’s East Wickham
« on: Saturday 15 January 22 19:09 GMT (UK)  »
My great grandmother is buried in St Michael’s church yard. The grave stones were removed in the70’s.
I can ascertain the general location of her grave from the cemetery plan.

I noticed on the aerial views that there appear to be some tombs remaining in the grave yard.
It is the one that I have ringed in yellow that I am interested in. If I can get the name on the monument it may help me place the exact location of the grave of my great grandmother and her two young children.

Obviously this request is probably a bit weird and only someone actually in East Wickham or the near vicinity will be able to help…but I thought, if I don’t ask, I will never know! 😉😄

Kent Lookup Requests / Chelsfield Look Up Request DENTON
« on: Friday 14 January 22 11:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I am on the trail of marriage details for Samuel Denton. Blacksmith.
The purpose being to discover the maiden name of his wife Elizabeth.
He was born c1796 Sundridge, Kent. Possible death registered  1840, Bromley
Married Elizabeth…no known surname although both the names Seaman and Hyde have been suggested on Ancestry.
She was born in Knockholt c1791.
These dates were gleaned from census records information.
They had 5 children…
Mary Ann b 1812 Chelsfield
Daniel b 1813 Chelsfield
Amelia b1815 St Mary Cray
Emma b 1817 Chislehurst
Sophia b 1820 Foots Cray

On the 1840 Tithe Apportionment Samuel Denton is mentioned in St Pauls Cray…it also states he is deceased.
On the 1841 census Elizabeth and Sophia are resident in St Pauls Cray
In 1851 Elizabeth is living with her now married daughter Sophia Read.

I have scoured the resources available through Ancestry and there appears to be nothing…so I wondered if there is any information out there that is not  as readily available.

Many thanks in advance…and fingers crossed!

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Downham Marriage Look Up for John Tomkins 1897
« on: Sunday 21 March 21 10:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I am trying to find any information on John Tomkins.

All I have is his marriage

Elizabeth Lilly McCready and John Tomkins
Mar Q 1897
Downham, Norfolk
Volume:   4b
Page:   519

On Ancestry some members have him as being killed in the Boer War in  1901, being in the 2nd Battalion of the East Kent regiment, but there is nothing to back this up.
So I thought that, with the marriage being the one solid fact, I would start with that.

I was wondering if anyone has access to the records for the Downham parish which give occupation , age and fathers name, please!

Is there a forum like Rootschat focussing on local history?
Or are local history questions acceptable on here?
