Glamorganshire / Parish Records
« on: Tuesday 25 February 20 23:31 GMT (UK)  »
Are there any searchable online Parish Records for Glamorgan for 1916 - 1936?
Is this too recent?
I am trying to locate the parents of Clarice Evans who married Edward James Rosser in East Glamorgan in 1936. I wondered if the banns where available whether they might give me a clue to her father.
According to the record of her death she was born 15 Nov 1916, Newport, Glamorgan, but I just cannot find anything in birth records, hence trying to try the marriage records.
It may be we will need to just bite the bullet and buy the marriage cert, but you know how it all adds up cost wise, but I thought I would try on here first!

Census and Resource Discussion / Getting fed up
« on: Thursday 20 February 20 14:45 GMT (UK)  »
I have all the details I need for the 1911 census from the 1911 English Census Summary Book entry on Ancestry. So there they are...in black and white...exactly as written d

William G Rowland HSN 158     George Rowland. HSN 238

Peabody Buildings Okd Pye Street
Civil Parish St John and St Margaret
Ecc Parish St Matthews Westminster
Reg District St George Hanover Square
Reg District number 5
Sub Reg District St Margaret and St John
Sub Reg District number 3
ED 17
Piece 16

So I put all that in in Ancestry to do a search of the actual census so I can see address, occupation, etc.....nothing...it cannot give me the census to look at, even though the information is exact. If I make it less exact it give me results for Rowlands in Liverpool, Surrey and all over the place!
So I went through the whole of the book for that record number and there is nothing at all for Peabody Buildings.
Any ideas?

The Common Room / Music Hall/Variety Performers
« on: Sunday 16 February 20 12:13 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking into a child entertainer from the 1930’s.
Her stage name was Dimples Smith and she was, at one time, based in Oxford.
Would I be better off posting this in the Occupations section or is The Common Room ok?
Basically wondering if there are any repositories for this sort of info.
Obviously Googling every possible selection of the words, Dimples, Swift, child, entertainer, variety, music hall, Oxford....and made up family story  ;) ;) ;) :D :D ;D brings up nothing.

The Common Room / Trying to find reference to a drowning 1890’s
« on: Wednesday 12 February 20 23:55 GMT (UK)  »
Not sure where to post this...so here it is.
I am looking for reference to my great great grandfather who lost his own life whilst trying to save a woman from drowning.
Apparently it was recorded in a newspaper, a clipping of which was kept by his daughter. She then showed this newspaper cutting to her nephew many years later, who then told his son about it, even more years later.
The event was after 1896 but before 1901. It most likely was in London, and more specifically, probably the Camberwell/Southwark area.
I have ploughed through the limited newspaper archive available on Ancestry to no avail.
Any ideas where else I might look?

The Common Room / Finding prisoners
« on: Friday 17 January 20 20:15 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the location of William Chambers b c1844 Battle, Breconshire, Wales.
He was given 3 months for larceny at Newington Assizes on 22/93/1855 and then another 6 months for larceny on 20/08/1855. Is there any way I can find out which prison he did his hard labour in?
Also, I have searched everywhere for him in the 1861 census, to no avail and although I have found no other record of him being “banged up”, I wondered if there is a way I can access prison census records to trawl through them! Oh look.....a flying pig!  ;) ;D

Census and Resource Discussion / Missing from 1891 census
« on: Wednesday 06 August 14 23:28 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering...did British citizens overseas at the time of census, get recorded if they were overseas say, in the army?
I am missing a family from the 1891 census and as I could not find them i wondered if they were all out of the country!
