Hi Jess5athome,

If it's from WW2 then the likelyhood is the badge is my Grandfathers. I don't know if he was a sergeant as he died in 1945 when my mum was 6.

Here is the only picture I have for him.

Hi everyone,

I'm after some help in identifying a regimental badge. I thought it was a cap badge, but someone has told me it might be a collar badge.
It may have belonged to my Grandfather, in which case it could be either WW1 or WW2. (He was unfortunate enough to have served in both wars).
It could equally have belonged to my uncle, in which case it would have been when he was in the National Service around 1948-1950.

Any help would be appreciated.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Are these two signatures the same?
« on: Tuesday 08 January 13 13:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Lizzie,

Are the signature very far apart in time?

Signatures do change over time, but I'm inclined to agree with the others that it's not the same man.

In one the name is written out in full, and the other John is abbreviated. I would think that once you have a set signature something as basic as to whether you write your name in full or not is pretty set, especially for a marriage.

Also, the double 'o' is linked together in one signature and not the other.

Hi,

I have a marriage query.

Joel England X Elizabeth Drew, at St. Stephen Bristol.

On the IGI the date given is         26 Mar 1793   batch number M01997-2.
On the Bristol marriage Cd's
the date is                                   26 Mar 1797.

Could anyone tell me which is the correct one Please.   :-\

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the look up.

Captain 2 has confirmed my suspicions that they were from Hampstead.

I did find the other IGI reference to Sarah Bates, but only after I had posted this thread.

Thanks again for your help.
