Technical Help / Re: Microsoft/Skype Account
« on: Monday 15 February 16 11:02 GMT (UK)  »
Frustrating, isn't it?
I've had a couple of problems with Skype that the forum hasn't been able to solve, and I just got fed up being told to "make sure you have the latest version"........
 ::)
They state they don't give 'phone support, but they do offer email contact:
https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1170/how-do-i-contact-skype-customer-service

Good luck.

I'm convinced that the big FH websites "drip feed" information into their databases to ensure customers keep renewing their subscriptions...............!

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: The Times wants your views: DNA ethnicity results
« on: Wednesday 03 February 16 13:33 GMT (UK)  »
Mrs Hat is often accusing me of dragging my knuckles, so I'm fairly sure of where I come from............
 ;)
It's not for me.
Apart from the cost, I'm not bothered about ethnicity - I prefer to take my research back one step at a time through reasonably proven links. Unless the ancestor I'm researching also had their DNA tested I can't see that it would be of huge use to me.
Just my opinion, and respect to all others.

will I be able to burn it onto a CD/DVD afterward?

Absolutely.
Audacity gives you the option to export audio files in different formats, in the file menu.

Hi, Di-Lo,

I've done a bit of recording in the past, but for this I'd be tempted to take the simplest option.
I'd use a budget mic', and record onto the laptop using free software such as Audacity.
http://www.audacityteam.org/
Fairly simple to set up and use, and minimal outlay.
Good luck.

Hi,

I don't like the new format, but I'm not having any viewer problems with it either.........
Someone might be able to help if you post any error messages you might be getting, and which operating system you're using.
Good luck!

Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Ancestry or Find My Past
« on: Wednesday 02 December 15 13:40 GMT (UK)  »
For what it's worth dept'..........
Yesterday, a friend of mine found a baptism record for me on FindMyPast which I hadn't been able to locate on Ancestry, but in the past the reverse has been true.
Swings and roundabouts - if I could afford it I'd have all of them............!

Technical Help / Re: Restored comp & now have a blank screen
« on: Wednesday 02 December 15 13:28 GMT (UK)  »
Until recently I used a mobile dongle exclusively, too - 15gb per month.
What I always do is turn off the automatic updates and install only the ones I want, manually, at a time to suit me.
Some of these updates are only used to report back details about your machine to Microsoft. As you're on a limited data allowance this is Not Good. You can find a list of unnecessary updates on the web.
 ;)
At least without the updater running you'll have more time/data allowance to sort out any other problems.
Good luck.

I would try this:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7
If it works you might have a software/driver problem.
I it doesn't, you might have a hardware problem.
At least it'll give you an idea of where to start looking, ammack.

Good luck.
