The Common Room / Change of Surname by Deed Poll

My grandmother's surname was changed by deed poll to the name I knew (ie. my mothers maiden name) when she was about 9 years old in 1907. It was not until I discussed my family history with an aged aunt I discovered this fact - so no wonder I could not find my gran's birth index or 1901 census entry !!   ::) 

Are there any records of deed poll name changes kept ? if so where ?

Of course I now know the previous name I can go back & find gran; but if auntie was not around - how could I have found out ?

World War One / WW1 info on Steven Saunders - Soldier

Does anyone have any ideas how I can found out more to identify a Steven Saunders - assuming this is the correct spelling - who was a Soldier.  He is identified as the father of my mother on her birth cerificate - she was born May 1919 in Southampton.  Southampton archives state that Soldiers were stationed on the Common - what Common might this be? note this was the First World War

Hi, I cannot find any entries anywhere, on 1881 census for either John Partridge (& wife Ann & family members) including son Frederick William (my great grandfather & grandfather respectively). They are found on both 1871 & 1891 census living in Peterborough in the St Marks area.  Why might they be missed from 1881 ? Any help appreciated. Thanks John Partridge.

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / PARTRIDGE, John from Sharnbrook, & Richard from Bletsoe - look ups please

I am looking for info on John Partridge - born Sharnbrook around 1825 - but later went to live in Peterborough. Found on 1871 & 1891 census, but not the 1881 one. I think he died in 1900 as he's not on 1901 census, although his wife Ann (Suttcliff, born Woodstone , Hunts) is - still in Peterborough. He was my great-grandfather.
 
His father is Richard,   born in Bletsoe around 1795
