Essex Lookup Requests / medical records 1852
« on: Saturday 06 June 20 16:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

My gr-gr-gr-grandfather Thomas Wilson lived in Writtle, Essex his whole life (1798 - 1875)
In 1852 one of his legs was taken off. Before that, in 1816, he was taken lame.
In 1823 he married Rebecca Gosden en went on to produce 13 (!) children.

I'm curious what the reason was why his leg was taken off (anything to do with 1816 maybe ?).

Are there any medical records from the 1852 period ?
Was there a hospital near Writtle ?

kind regards

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: White Hart Pub Woodford, family Gould family Radley
« on: Saturday 30 May 20 04:24 BST (UK)  »
hi cuffie81,

again: wow ! thank you so much for all this information.
I was wondering who Charlotte was and where child Mary Jane was (aged 5) in 1841.

Looks like my ancestors lived mostly in Essex: Woodford, Chigwell, Writtle (Windley, Wilson, Bradley, Gosden, Halls).

thanks again ! Have a nice weekend !

hi cuffie81,

wow that's a lot of information. Thank you very much.
Looks very promising, so I can look into that a little bit more.
Just one more question:
I have a copy of the 1851 census and Robert and George Gould are living with Thomas Radley at White Hart. But they are stated as being Son in Law. Now, that's not possible I think. Shouldn't that be stepson ?
And who is Charlotte Radley census 1841, also living at White Hart?

Oops, that's 2 questions ;)

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me who was the publican or owner of the White Hart Pub in Woodford.
I'm looking for the Gould and Radley family.
This should be about 1830 to 1890-ish ?

Where can I find this information ?

Kind regards

Essex / Joseph Halls and Rebecca West parents lookup please
« on: Monday 11 May 20 12:00 BST (UK)  »
hi all,

looking for the parents of both Joseph Halls and Rebecca West. married 1809 in Chigwell
this is what I have so far:

Joseph bapt. 16 Jan 1780 in Waltham Holy Cross
parents are mentioned as William Halls and Sarah
would like to know when and where William and Sarah were born, married and did Joseph have any siblings

Rebecca bapt. 4 May 1788 in Navestock
parents mentioned as William West and Sarah
same questions: when and where born, married and did Rebecca have any siblings

A while back I got the information that William Hals was born in 1761 in Barrow Glouchestershire and married in 1771 (at 10 years of age ???) in Castle hedingham Essex. Obviously impossible.
So I cannot use this information.

Any help grately appreciated.

Kent Lookup Requests / Windley family from Woolwich
« on: Sunday 03 May 20 16:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have a family here originally from Roxwell Essex.
Father Henry (b 1706), wife Ellen (Elleanor) and children Elisha (b 1732) en Ellen (b 1735).
Someone told me they moved to Woolwich Kent, where the following children were born:
Henry (b 1740 d before Dec 1744)
John (b 1742 d 1747)
Henry (b 1744 d 1747)
Sarah (b 1745 d 1747)
Thomas (b 1748)
John (b 1750/51)

My questions:

How can it be proven that they moved from Roxwell Essex to Woolwich Kent before 1741 ? Are there any records somewhere ?

when and where did Henry (b 1740) die ?

and was there some desease in 1747 in England, because they the parents had to bury 3 of their children in 3 days time !

thank you for your time.
