Hi again, Diddy:  Not as helpful as I thought as you actually have to go there to view the records.  They have links, of course, to all the usual websites.  Unfortunately, Ashby de la Zouch is more than a stone's throw from Vancouver!!  So, if anyone IS going to Ashby graveyard sometime, my request still stands...

Thanks, diddy, I'll look into that, sounds really helpful as my grandfather, also Andrew, lived in Ashby as well around 1910-1914.  It's going to give me quite the boost in that particular tree!

Leicestershire / Ashby de la Zouch burial look-up please

I am assuming that my great-grandfather, Andrew Craven, who died in Oct 1914, is buried in Ashby as that is where they were living at the time of his death ("Knowle Hills").  I am still trying to trace the date of death of his wife, Jane nee Watson.  I am trying to find out if she is buried next to him.  I believe she survived him by up to 15 years.  If anybody goes to Ashby graveyard (is there a graveyard there?) over the next few weeks and could let me know, I would be forever in your debt.  (And if she is there, say hello to them from me!)  Thanks.

She was on the St Paul sailing out of Southampton and entered through Ellis Island.  I haven't checked on the Dr. Dunn connection yet.  Strangely, I will be in Boston in a couple of weeks but on a cruise and I don't think a day in Boston should be wasted looking for such peripheral relatives!  Euphemia/Isabel died in April 1984 in Altadena, Los Angeles, CA.  I'll try the 2 sites you offered.

I'm so grateful for your (and everyone else's) help on this...Isabel's nephew is still alive (almost 90) and is so excited that all this information is coming out about the family as his father moved away from the  rest of them immediately prior to WWI and, as often happened when communication was not easy back then, he lost touch with all of his other relatives.  I am so enjoying sending off each little titbit that is discovered and having his son tell me of how his father's eyes light up as he hears it.  Thank you.

Thank you shellyesq:  I wondered whether to use my previous post but as I am now tracking the son's family, I figured I should start a new one.  I was aware, of course, of the 2 dates of sailing; however, I now have a previous address and I also now have a new lead, 'uncle and aunt' - which means that Mrs. Allen Dunn was her mother or her father's sister.  Thank you SO much, merjones: my 'new' 2nd cousin (traced through this site!) and I have been trying to find the details of our great-uncle James' death.  Thanks to you, this particular mystery has been solved.   The web spreads yet again!  To all others reading this, I still seek the offspring of Jack Craven Beaumont, if only to explain the change in my great-aunt's name!

Seeking information from descendants of Jack Craven Beaumont, b. May 18, 1915, California; d. May 4, 1990, San Diego, California. In 1930, he and his family were in New York.   Son of J. B. Beaumont and Isabel, nee Craven (b. Banchory-Ternan, Kincardineshire, Scotland 1885).  Isabel was probably a nurse.  Despite her name, I believe that Isabel was actually my great-aunt Euphemia and am trying to find when she originally immigrated to the USA, where she first lived - and whether or not her brother James joined her for a short time before his (sudden and possibly violent) death in NJ in 1930.

Hi, Jane:  You are, of course, correct.  I keep forgetting about the difference between actual residence and registration districts - this error has led me up many a wrong trail!  Mostly they were around Melbourne, Foremark, Kedleston areas.  The Houghtons were almost all Melbourne, the Cravens (men) were gamekeepers so would be in tied cottages on the main estates.  We now know that Euphemia Craven emigrated to the USA in her late teens, no later than 20 y.o. and we have a thread on her and her family over there.  Thanks for pointing that out!!

I have read this series of posts from beginning to end.  What a fascinating story - and so good that the family has the documentation back in their care.  Also, through the magic of the computer and the Internet, other peoples' stories are intertwined and outstanding questions are answered.  Thanks for sharing the outcome of this!
