Norfolk / Happisburgh/Bacton area 1961 - where is/was this cottage
« on: Monday 02 April 18 05:21 BST (UK)  »
I had a roving childhood and I'm trying to locate a cottage I lived in for a few months in the Happisburgh/Bacton area (photo attached). I've wandered around the area on Google street view and can't find it. Does anyone recognise it?
All help much appreciated,

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Check entry - GIRLING, Ipswich St Clement, 1806
« on: Saturday 31 August 13 12:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I was wondering if someone would be able to double check an entry in the registers of St Clement, Ipswich.
The Suffolk Baptism Index has a baptism for "Tammy" Girling on 20 Nov 1806 with no indication of whether the child is a son or a daughter. I can find no further reference to a Tammy Girling (or any other related name) but a Samuel Girling is married in 1831 in St Clements, shortly after Tammy's brother Charles Girling. I wondered if someone could check whether "Tammy" was a transcription error for "Sammy".

Thanks in advance

Suffolk Lookup Requests / FAIRWEATHER baptism lookup Eye 1776
« on: Saturday 10 August 13 09:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
In the FamilySearch indexes there is a listing for the baptism of Jane Fairweather d/o Thomas and Sarah, 1 Mar 1776 in the Sudbury ATs. She was almost certainly the daughter of Thomas Fairweather and Sarah Downing who married in Hadleigh on 30 Jul 1775. Unfortunately there are no Fairweather baptisms in Hadleigh. Jane married in Debenham in 1798 and her mother (Sarah nee Downing, wife of Thomas) was buried there in 1801, but there is no baptism for Jane in Debenham. However it seems as if Thomas was buried in Eye in 1824, and (judging by burials) there seems to have been several Fairweather families living in Eye in the 18th century.

Jane is my gggg-grandmother and has been a brick wall for over 5 years.

Would someone be kind enough to check the Eye PRs to see if Jane was baptized there? (Otherwise it's back to the drawing board.)

England / Archive References for Parish Registers
« on: Saturday 08 June 13 00:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
As a long distance researcher I am dependent on Family History Library (FHL) films and the increasing number of digitised images online to check original entries. I like to record the County/Diocese archive reference number of the original document from which the image was taken.

Some of these can be located via the FHL catalogue or Access to Archives. Some counties have beautifully easy to use online catalogues. Some I find extremely hard to find. Consequently I was wondering whether there was a published listing available?

I know SoG are publishing a county by county "National Index of Parish Registers". Does any one know if they include this level of detail?

Hi,
To make Rick's job easier I like follow instructions and edit my subject when a lookup is completed. However the recent makeover of the site has removed the "modify" button from the original post. Is there a sneaky way we can get around this?

Suffolk Lookup Requests / FAIRWEATHER baptism lookup Hadleigh 1776
« on: Saturday 01 June 13 23:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
In the FamilySearch indexes there is a listing for the baptism of Jane Fairweather d/o Thomas and Sarah, 1 Mar 1776 in the Sudbury ATs. She was almost certainly the daughter of Thomas Fairweather and Sarah Downing who married in Hadleigh on 30 Jul 1775. Both Thomas and Sarah stated that they were "OTP" so there is a strong possibility that Jane was baptized in Hadleigh.

Jane is my gggg-grandmother and has been a brick wall for over 5 years.

Would someone be kind enough to check the Hadleigh PRs to see if Jane was indeed baptized there. (Otherwise it's back to the drawing board.)

Suffolk Lookup Requests / FAIRWEATHER-DOWNING Marriage lookup Hadleigh 1775
« on: Thursday 16 May 13 03:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
There is an entry on FamilySearch for a marriage between Thomas Fairweather and Sarah Downing on 30 Jul 1775 at Hadleigh. I think this may be my ggggg-grandparents, but it is a bit out of area for my family.

I wonder if anyone could check the original parish register entry for me to see if there is any additonal information (e.g. parish of origin, witnesses, bachelor/spinster etc).

Thanks to anyone who takes the trouble to read this.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Doncaster St George Baptisms c 1760 WOOD
« on: Monday 19 November 12 09:21 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to all who take the time to read and possibly help with this request.

My ggggg-grandparents, William Oldfield and Frances Wood, were married in Doncaster St George, 1st January 1781 by licence. William was stated to be of Brodsworth and the couple baptised their first child there on 6 Jan 1782 before moving to London, William Snr having been baptised in Brodsworth 3 Oct 1756. No information is given as to the place of origin of Frances Wood and no age is given in her burial entry in London.

There is a Frances Wood baptised at Wath upon Dearne 23 Feb 1762. From other baptisms it seems that the family lived at the hamlet of Hoober. However there is also a burial of Frances Wood, age 20, on 5 Mar 1782 at Wentworth, a chapelry of Wath near Hoober which I think eliminates her.

Given that the marriage took place in Doncaster, there is a possibility that Frances was baptised there. Would anybody be able to check the Doncaster St George Baptisms for me. I'm afraid I can't specify the date any closer than probably between 1755 and 1765.

thanks again,
