Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / Standon Baptisms - 1750-60 - PLUMB or PHILLIPS
« on: Wednesday 18 May 11 01:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

My 5xgreat-grandparents John PLUMB and Elizabeth PHILLIPS married in Standon on 10 Oct 1781 before moving to Welwyn. John's burial entry indicates a birth ~1756. I can't find a burial for Elizabeth (remarriage? but not the James Holton marriage in 1823, Elizabeth Holton's burial gives a birth ~1785) but would assume she was born within 5 years of John.

A search of the HALS online index indicates that people with both those names were marrying in Standon in the early to mid 1700s.

Would anyone be able to check the Standon PRs for me to see if there are relevant baptisms?

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Norfolk / Odd Norfolk given name - Chatnne
« on: Saturday 16 April 11 23:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
When I first came across the female given name "Chatnne" I thought it was a Clerk's error, particularly as it seemed the holder used the name "Catherine" in later life.

I've now come across it several times, all in Norfolk.

Does anyone know the origin or how it would have been pronounced? (Chatnee, Katnee, Katerne?)

I would greatly appreciate a lookup of the baptism of Mary Keen(e) who (according to the censuses) was born in Whitton cum Thurlston c 1802. I believe her father was James KEEN(E), the brother of my gggg-grandfather.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Suffolk / Double entries in Suffolk Burial Index
« on: Saturday 09 April 11 09:16 BST (UK)  »
I have a number of burials around 1870 in Ipswich which have two entries in the Suffolk Burial Index: one for St Peter's Church and one for Ipswich cemetery. Does anyone know why this happened?
(I can think of a couple of possibles:
1. the service was held in St Peter's but the body was buried at the cemetery
2. the bodies were moved to the cemetery when St Peter's graveyard was cleared
but it would be nice to know exactly where the body is)

Hi,
Would anybody be able to look up a marriage in the Haughley PRs please?

My 6xg-grandfather (Edmund Gyford) married my 6xg-grandmother (Alice Smith) in Debenham in 1757. Edmund was a widower and a Sarah Gyford, wife of Edmund was buried in Debenham in 1756. I'm looking for Edmund's first marriage in an attempt to track his place of birth.

Boyd's marriage index has Edmund Giford marrying Sarah Ship in Haughley in 1723 but gives no other details.

Thanks for taking the time to at least read this,

Suffolk / Desperately seeking Jane FAIRWEATHER
« on: Friday 08 April 11 01:17 BST (UK)  »
I have a brick wall at my gggg-grandmother, Jane FAIRWEATHER and would appreciate any suggestions to overcome it.

My ggg-grandmother, Sarah Keen(e), was baptised in Debenham Independent Chapel in 1803, the third of five children of Henry and Jane Keen(e).

Henry Keen(e) married Jane Fairweather on 15 Feb 1798 in St Mary Magdalene, Debenham. Both were stated to be "of this parish". It was a shotgun wedding (the first child, Mary was born on 22 Mar 1798) and the 2 witnesses were both Fairweathers by birth: Elizabeth Beecroft nee Fairweather (daughter of John & Elizabeth, baptized 1751) and John Fairweather (son of John & Elizabeth baptized 1754). This would seem to indicate that Jane was related to the Debenham Fairweathers.

Jane died and was buried on 5 Jul 1818 in the churchyard of St Mary Debenham, age 41. This would indicate a birth around 1776-7.

There are no Fairweather families baptizing children in Debenham in 1776-7. I have searched the registers of Debenham, Ashfield, Aspall, Mickfield and Wetheringsett without locating a baptism.

Has anyone come across a Fairweather family baptizing in the mid 1770s in the Debenham area?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,
I've been trying to find a relative in the 1861 Census - Thomas Handford & his wife Eliza. He lived at 5 & 6 Strand in 1851 and died there in 1865. Searches of the 1861 census on Ancestry, FindMyPast & The Genealogist fail to bring him up.

The Registration District is St Martin in the Fields, Sub District Charing Cross. The description of Enumeration district 8 seems to cover the low numbers of Strand, but there are only 6 pages available (both Ancestry & FindMyPast), finishing after only the first 4 of 9 locations with the last page seeming to end mid-residence. Most of the other EDs seem to have 15-25 pages.

Can anyone confirm whether this is an unlisted missing section of the Census?

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Gislingham Baptisms 1729-40 - EMERSON
« on: Sunday 27 February 11 05:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for the baptism of Sarah EMERSON who married Henry Keen in Gislingham in Dec 1760. Her burial entry in Whitton on 5 Apr 1823 gives an age of 94, implying she was born c1729 (which seems a bit early). To marry in 1760 implies a birth not much later than 1740.

Apologies for the date range. I don't know how to refine it any better.

Thanks in advance,
