Suffolk / Re: Suffolk Burial Index- Abbreviations
« on: Monday 04 May 09 01:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi granma b,

I think it should be read as "also" rather than as "alias" .

For a number of years in many parishes a married woman's maiden name (if known) was included in the baptisms of her children and her burial record. I believe it is this information which is included in the notes as "al" or "als" NAME.

Hi Sid,

I'm connected to some Runeckles/Runacres/etc. etc. by marriage in Debenham. I have a similar trouble with my ancestors - Spall is an uncommon name and they tend to move about. The best way I have found to track them is to get a copy of the Suffolk Burial Index CD (from the Suffolk Family History Society) and map the burials by century or half-century. You are then in a better position to ask for lookups in parishes with numerous burials (particularly child burials about the time your ancestor was born).

Oh, and you can also use the CD to find the burials of your ancestors  ;D

I've recently worked through the LDS film of the Cretingham transcripts and there are a few Runacles there, but a bit earlier than you are currently looking (5 baptisms, 5 different spellings  ;)  ).

Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Baptism - John ROWLEY b abt 1823 Standon
« on: Monday 04 May 09 00:51 BST (UK)  »
Just thought I'd correct a misapprehension. Standon Parish Registers were only partially filmed by LDS, and there are big gaps in what is available. (Guess when my ancestors were in Standon.)
The film sets available are:
Bishop's transcripts for Standon, 1630-1707  Church of England. Parish Church of Standon (Hertfordshire)
Bishop's transcripts for Standon, 1800-1813  Church of England. Parish Church of Standon (Hertfordshire)
Parish register transcripts, 1777-1809 : transcribed by Peter Walne  Church of England. Parish Church of Standon (Hertfordshire)
Parish registers for Standon, 1809-1946  Church of England. Parish Church of Standon (Hertfordshire)
Parish registers, 1813-1907  Church of England. Parish Church of Standon (Hertfordshire)

So Pughy will be OK for 1823, but may have trouble if the ancestors were in Standon for a few generations before that.

I am trying to locate the baptisms of 3 children of Henry & Sarah KEEN(E) - Henry, Richard & James. I have been led to believe that they were baptised in Wetheringsett. If so the baptisms happened between 5 Sep 1761 and 28 Sep 1765. A lookup would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your efforts.
