Breconshire / Usk Valley Railway, Sennybridge, Maescar
« on: Saturday 15 May 10 15:31 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any information re the Usk Valley Railway??

I am trying to trace the death of my gt grandfather - Rees Jones - originally b 1844 in Breconshire, moved to north-east England mid 1870s.  He died some time between 1883 and 1890 when my gt grandmother remarried as a widow.  There is no record of Rees dying in the north-east during this time.

I have sent for a death cert of a Rees Jones who died in June 1889 at the Usk Valley Railway Hotel, Sennybridge, Maescar. The Rees on the certificate is 44years and a General Labourer and died from cirrhosis of the liverof some years duration (my Rees was an ironworker).  With such a common name it is difficult for me to know whether this is my gt grandfather and, I wondered if anyone had any info on the Usk Valley Railway or Sennybridge itself......or even point me in the direction of a website that could possibly help????  What made me wonder is that this Rees on the certificate died in a hotel???

Hope someone can help........  Julie

I am trying to trace the birth of my 2x great grandmother - Eleanor Conick, formerly Eleanor George, abt 1800.

She married my 2xgreat grandfather Thomas Conick in 1842 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan and settled there to have their family - my great grandmother Ann Conick was born in 1848 in Dowlais.

On their marriage certificate Eleanor's age just says "full".   Eleanor's father is down as William George, a tailor.  I have been able to find two William George's in the 1841/1851 Censuses.  In 1841 he is age 80, living in Cwmisbfail Village, Llangendeirne, Carmarthenshire, with wife Margaret George age 80.
He is a tailor.

In 1851 they are still in Llangendeirne - William 89 a "taylor pauper" and Margaret 94.

I have traced Eleanor in the 1851 census where her birth is just down as Carmarthenshire then I can't find her until 1881 when she is still in Glamorgan and her birth is down as Llanegwad, Carmarthenshire.

I really need to find out whether or not this William George is Eleanor Conick's father.  Is there anyone who would be kind enough to check records for me and also find Eleanor's birth record??

I live in Kent and its going to be some time before I can get to the records office myself so any help would be much appreciated.

I think my grandfather may have attended this school in 1891 - does anyone have any information on it or know if records are available?

Durham / Rees Jones - Stockton
« on: Wednesday 28 October 09 19:02 GMT (UK)  »
I just cannot find my great grandfather's death.  Rees Jones was born in 1844 in Maesmynis, Breconshire but moved to Stockton with his family about 1875 where my grandfather was born in Sheraton Street 1878, also called Rees Jones.  I have found the family living at 17 Sheraton Street in the 1881 Census.  In 1890 my great grandmother remarried and is down as a widow on her marriage certificate to John Smith.  (I know!  First Jones, now Smith!)

From what I have learnt Ann and Rees had their last child, David Jones, in 1883 in Stockton so Rees must have died some time between 1883 and 1890.

Would appreciate any advice!  (ps this is my first post - please bear with me!)
