Unfortunately not.  It would have been one of the local newspapers around Lancashire and St Helens.  I'll try and spend some time going though my boxes of papers and my note pad may turn up.  Thanks for your interest and help.

Always worth a try I suppose Nanna.

Boo, many thanks for checking over the Newspaper and for confirming there are no images of my granddad.  He died before I was born.

Thanks Kingsclere,

Typical, my FindMyPast Pro membership lapsed at the end of June.  I'll need to consider whether I can afford to take another membership at the moment.

Best,

Kit

Hi John,

I really appreciate your well set out response.

Lots to consider then.  I'll try and research on the options provided and see where I get.

Best,

World War One / Photographs of Servicemen in local newspapers - Help please

Back in 2010 I asked for assistance of the photograph restorers to get a better image of my Grandfather James Joseph Carson's Military photo in the local paper.  The restorers did a great job.

Does anyone know where these photographs would have been stored at the time and where they would eventually have been archived?  Were they held by the local newspapers, by the Regiment or in a central location?  These photos don't appear to have been kept with the soldiers service record.  Maybe its as simple as approaching or visiting the Lancashire Records Office.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Bringing this back to the top of the board as no one has responded to the post on the 19th from Elaine.

I can see that tn17 hasn't been online since 2021.

Hope you have some luck.
