Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / tracing ownership of property
« on: Tuesday 12 May 20 05:11 BST (UK)  »
At least 3 generations of my Lewis Ancestors owned property partly in or near Merthyr Tydfil.
One of them called  Tair Cupla otherwise Tair lan also Tyr lan.

Is it possible to trace who owned the properties prior to when Lewis Lewis who died 1831 owned it.

His will is National Library of Wales, Will: Lewis Lewis - 1831, Llandaff Wills LL1831-42.

Properties also mentioned are "leasehold messuage tenement and lands called tyr Shag and Gwain Evan Gethin situate in the parish of Gellygare aforesaid now in his own occupation being part of the premises demised to me by the late Baroness Dynevor and John Richards esquire"

leasehold messuage tenement and lands called “Tyr Rhys Morgan”

Findmypast looks to have the 1861 marriage between Thomas Jeffs and Emma Shepherd.

One of the information I'm interested in his father occupation.

Thanks

Australia / Karrakatta Cemetery WA is being "RENEWED"
« on: Thursday 06 February 20 22:29 GMT (UK)  »
Going by some facebooks posts this is already happening.

https://www.mcb.wa.gov.au/our-cemeteries/karrakatta-cemetery/cemetery-renewal

Lack of space to conduct burials.
Future expansion is restricted by Karrakatta’s central location. At other MCB cemetery sites there are increasing external influences, such as the Bush Forever initiative, that are limiting the development of new burial land.
Whilst cremation is now the preferred service at Karrakatta, the religious and cultural requirements of approximately 20% of families ensures that there is a continued need for burial grounds.
Monuments on graves in areas where the right of grants have expired generally tend to fall into a state of disrepair and have the potential to become safety hazards.

England / Drowned in the English Channel on FreeBMD?
« on: Saturday 25 January 20 15:16 GMT (UK)  »
Would this death be on FreeBMD?

I found on Welsh Newspapers online what looks to be the Drowning death of my 3rd Great Grandfather on 8 Feb 1869. The information on his father and his Uncle matches what I have on this lot, including the farm name.

https://newspapers.library.wales/home, Welsh Newspapers.
"The Merthyr Telegraph and General Advertiser for the Iron Districts of South Wales, 27th February 1869.
"On the 8th instant, drowned after the collision of the steamship Calcutta, from London, with the barque Emma, from Cardiff, in the English Channel, Mr. Edward Lewis, engineer. He was the second son of the late Mr. Edward Lewis, superannuated Excise Officer, of Pontnewydd, Gellygaer, and nephew to Mr. Thomas Lewis, of Tairlan Farm, in the parish of Merthyr. He was 41 years of age, and has left a widow and a large family."."

Renfrewshire / Lair certificate - Neilston
« on: Friday 23 August 19 05:37 BST (UK)  »
My wife's Uncle Jim died feb this year in or near Glasgow. We have received a request for information about a Lair certificate which appears to be required so that his ashes can be placed with his mum, buried Neilston cemetery.

I'm looking for information about what a Lair certificate is, why one is required, how to obtain one etc, etc.

I have emailed a funeral parlor in Barrhead, with which my wife and I had organised in 2016 for a Gravestone to put placed on the lair when we were visiting in the UK.

The Common Room / Help needed finding a GRO entry on the GRO online Index
« on: Wednesday 05 June 19 02:27 BST (UK)  »
I have a birth entry from FreeBMD which I cannot locate on the GRO online Index.
I've checked the image on FreeBMD.

Twice I've contacted GRO to report a missing entry and both times received this reply "Indexed data is correct".
