Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / 1600s Russian/Polish signature
« on: Thursday 11 April 13 17:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

A new RootsChatter has asked me to post the signature below for deciphering. She is trying to read the top signature from the 1600s which she believes may be of Russion or Polish origin. The bottom signature and the letter added under the signature was included for letter comparison, as part of her deciphering efforts.

I would guess the surname may be Zaborowskij or similar, but we would welcome any other ideas.

Thanks,
Alexander

World War One / AVC - W. C. Frecknall
« on: Friday 08 March 13 18:20 GMT (UK)  »
I have a medal rolls index card for a W. C. Frecknall who served in the Army Veterinary Corps, regimental number SE/2803 or 7803 (can't tell which).

Under the W. of his name, 'Williams' was written in. However, I can't find any Frecknall with that name or initials.

I am trying to identify who this is. I can't find any service records. Does anyone have any ideas how I might find more information about him?

Thanks,
Alexander

Essex Lookup Requests / Loughton marriage lookup please - COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 02 March 13 01:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I don't think I've been to this part of RootsChat before...not many of my relatives strayed into Essex. :)

I'm hoping someone can save me a few quid from getting a marriage cert by looking at the Loughton PRs. I'm looking for the marriage details of William Hall and Harriet Barnes who married in Sep quarter 1863 in Epping district. I'm quite confident that they were married at Loughton parish church.

Thank you!

The Lighter Side / "Related Topics" box

I've just noticed the new "Related Topics" section at the bottom of some threads. It's very clever how it's able to figure out which threads are related.

Yet another feature that makes RootsChat such a great site. :)

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Brampon burial - Godfrey Owen
« on: Sunday 10 February 13 18:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am searching for a burial record for Godfrey Owen, between about 1680 and 1697, probably in Old Brampton, Derbyshire or nearby. All I know about him is the following, an extract from 1697 cause papers:

"And to the Examinates knowledge one Godfrey Owen for about seaven years together left his owne wife and family, and lived with the said [A. F.] till his death in a very scandalous manner and it was the generall beleife of all the neigbours that they lived in Adultry and Incontinence"

Nottingham Completed Lookup Requests / "Notts Southwell B.S." Completed
« on: Wednesday 06 February 13 17:23 GMT (UK)  »
On the 1851 census, Ann Rogers's birthplace is given as "Notts Southwell B.S." (reference HO107/2134, f 305, p 17).

It may not be at all important, but if anyone has any ideas for what "B.S." might stand, it would be much appreciated. I've browsed a few of the surrounding pages and cannot see it next to anyone else's birthplace.

Thank you!

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Shelford marriage lookup please (1796)
« on: Friday 11 January 13 19:24 GMT (UK)  »
Could some kind person please lookup the details of the marriage of John Richardson and Elizabeth Horsepool, which occurred at Shelford, Notts on 8 Feb 1796? I know from Phillimore that John was from Southwell, but I'm hoping that it shows whether John and Elizabeth were widows, or if the witness names provide any clues.

Thanks,
Alexander

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Heckfield - burial lookup
« on: Saturday 27 October 12 02:47 BST (UK)  »
I'm searching for burial records for Burman Wells (b. 1752) and his wife Mary Wells (b. 1751). The last trace of them I have is of Mary living in Heckfield, Hampshire in 1824, but I'm not sure if her husband was still alive by then. This information comes from Mary's brother's will written in 1824.

Thanks,
Alexander
