Family Search
Name   George Montague Cole
Event Type   Burial
Event Place   Bourke Shire, New South Wales, Australia
Age   57
Birth Year (Estimated)   1828
Death Date   12 Dec 1885
Cemetery   Bourke General Cemetery: Church of England section

The George Montague Cole I am looking for was born Islington, London 28 March 1828. Daughter Gertrude Wynne Cole believed to have been born in South Africa, however she WAS married and divorced in South Africa. Marriage #2 in London.

The above burial record is the ONLY Australian record  of George I can find. Could there be more references to his life in Australia? Other daughter of George is Mae. Possibly born in South Africa

Australia / Minnie May Easton/Frederick Charles Welch Bengal India and Perth Australia
« on: Thursday 19 October 17 04:23 BST (UK)  »
I am researching Minnie May Easton born Bengal, India, 31 January 1896.
1st marriage to Edwin Adolphus Nierses 11 February 1914 Asonsol, Bengal.
Divorced.
2nd marriage to Frederick Charles Welch 23 July 1924, Calcutta, Bengal.
Minnie died 6 October 1966, buried Perth, Australia War Cemetery, why?
Frederick Charles Welch died 17 November 1965, no mention of War Cemetery!
Both are on a grave marker together.

Minnie's parents were father born Cambridge, England and mother County Durham, England.

Was Frederick Charles originally an Australian?

South Africa / South Africa Research Help
« on: Friday 25 August 17 13:58 BST (UK)  »
Gertrude Wynne Cole was possibly born in South Africa about 1861. She married Seymour Dallas (of Lancashire, England) 25 March 1878, Cape Town children found so far:
Gertrude Mary Dallas born abt 1879
Jessie Seymour Dallas born abt Nov 1881
Female Dallas born 29 October 1883 (Cape Times)

Gertrude divorced Seymour Dallas in South Africa or England?

The divorced Gertrude married Bernard Vidal Shaw 1889 Kensington, London.

They went to British Guiana where Bernard was employed as Head of Prisons.

Three children born there.

Blanche Shaw born about 1890
Bernard Vidal Shaw born 28 April 1891
Eyre Massey Shaw born 1895/6. Killed WWI

Now comes the weird part which has no relevance to South Africa. A Blanche Seymour Shaw married a William Harold B. Whitaker 11 June 1918. London. Who names a child with the first (divorced) and second husbands names? Blanche Seymour Shaw born 1890 according to Whittaker research.

Any help on filling the South African gaps will be appreciated.

Library and FHS Lookups / Bedford Cemetery, Bedfordshire, England

I wonder if it would be possible for a Bedford Roots Chatter to look at the Grave of Raymond Sydney Worrall who was killed/died whilst serving with the Royal Artillery,  5 December 1944. I would like to see if his marker has Raymond OR Sidney John engraved on it.  He is registered on Free BMD Dec qtr. 1944 , Bedford  as Sidney John Worrall which is his correct name but "Raymond" is on his CWGC entry. The fact is that "Raymond" has exactly the same parents as the real Sidney John and the same wife as Sidney John but Raymond is published on the CWGC entry.

Other Countries / Marriage in Hong Kong or Canton?
« on: Monday 31 July 17 02:32 BST (UK)  »
George Stacey Kennedy-Skipton married Helen Tow 23 August 1924. Burkes Irish Gentry.

However is it not known where they married. George was an employee of the Hong Kong Government and Helen was a missionary based out of Canton and working out of Hong Kong. They could have married in either place. I have full information on both their births and deaths and am just missing their marriage place.

« on: Wednesday 16 November 16 11:19 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for a Betty Osbourne Colls born Pretoria, South Africa, 1902, daughter of Arthur Stanley Colls and his wife Katherine Mary Elliott.  Arthur was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, Katherine in Ceylon., two daughters Katherine Ciceley and Sylvia Beryl  born in Ceylon as well as their son Tom George born in Ceylon. That leaves daughter Betty Osbourne Colls born about 1902 in Pretoria. Would there be a birth/baptism date in Pretoria. Their other children were baptized C of E. in Ceylon. The parents married C of E in Ceylon.

Other Countries / Central, Hong Kong
« on: Saturday 17 September 16 04:48 BST (UK)  »
Elizabeth Carlton Phyllis Kennedy-Skipton was baptized 28 June 1926 at St. John's Cathedral, current address Central, Hong Kong. I am trying not to create an  anachronism with Central. Would the address of the Cathedral have been the same in 1926 using the term Central. Elizabeth had a sad ending. She died in July 1926 at sea on the SS Empress of Canada en-route from Victoria,  Hong Kong to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Durham Lookup Requests / East Bowden, Far Hills and Monkwearmouth?
« on: Sunday 31 July 16 11:40 BST (UK)  »
I am having a problem with a relative John Ord son of Robert Ord. (father Robert on John's  marriage certificate, John’s wife Jane Layton).  On two census records his birthplace is East Bowden, born about 1825. I have found a baptism at Monkwearmouth, St.. Peter, of a John Ord baptized 1 Jan 1826 and born to Robert and Mary Ord, at Far Hills.(that’s it no more)  9 May 1825, Is there any relationship between Far Hills and East  Bowden?  Presumably both around the Monkwearmouth area?
