Occupation Interests / ground Bailey in Staffordshire
« on: Friday 05 June 09 23:43 BST (UK)  »
hi All, How could I find whose land a "Ground Bailley"was in charge of.
My GGGGrandfather Robert Reid, was a 'ground bailey' in the 1851 and 61 census. He lived at Golden Hill, Oldcott Staffordshire at the time. Is there a record basis for Bailliffs? Is there a difference between a  "Ground Bailley"and a "Bailliff"???
thanks to anyone who responds!! re Karen.

No reason, I don't even know how it happened. I was planning on replying to Stewart as I have a Hannah Reid in my records, but on closer inspection, my Hannah is far too young.,  Still trying to figure out how the 3 quotes came about!! , tried deleting them from my Kazzan name but unsuccessful :-[

« on: Friday 05 June 09 14:58 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any connections to the family of Robert Reid, married to Mary(Gough), lived at Golden Hill, Oldcott. Daughters were Hannah and Harriet. He was a ground Bailley. Found them in the 1851 and 1861 census.....
looking for a connection with...
James Reid born 1835 Perthshire (according to wedding cert., his father was a bailliff named Robert!!) James married Elizabeth Taylor 1863, married & worked at Sudbury Hall, was a gardener, lived at Lower Tean, Checkley, Harry Fields, then later at... BroadBottom, Mottram. Children were James, Robert, Elizabeth, Helen, Margaret. James died in 1897 Mottram rd, Broadbottom, Cheshire.
Any help, connections or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / James Reid inquest request
« on: Friday 05 June 09 13:34 BST (UK)  »
Opps, I posted this request in the wrong spot, so here it is again!!

Hi all, I am very new here. I have just discovered if your ancestors death certificate showed there was an inquest, then the incident should be recorded in the paper. Could anyone possibly tell me how to find information on the death of a James Reid aged 63, whose inquest was held on the 20th July 1897 by the coroner for Cheshire?? James died in 98 Mottram rd. Broadbottom.  I am in Australia and do not have access to such papers. Can anybody please do a lookup for me,
thankyou, regards Karen

I have a Hannah Reid in the 1851 census at Golden Hill, Oldcott Staff.. Living with parents Robert and Mary and sister Harriet. She is totally the wrong age, as she is only 17, but a house servant also!! Thought I'd post it anyway as same names can often be familial connections!
