It could be a false positive. A lot of MH matches under 50cM from what I gather can be placed in this category. ( For example I have a match on MH where we clearly share  Scottish gg grandparents. One of our shared matches is Gideon Japhet, the father of the owner of MH. I am as sure as I can be that this is a false positive).

Added : I have 2 kits on MH, one is a kit transferred from Ancestry, the other being from MH. I only match with Gideon Japhet on the kit transferred from Ancestry, perhaps adding credence to it being a false positive.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Ancestry Clusters

Here is a link to the Ancestry blog about this new feature:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/c/ancestry-blog/dna/dna-matches-by-cluster?srsltid=AfmBOooaMyjqiDtcgFCaVBSRtlqZaS3j4Z5umf1pE8XuPFY7LDFrhvdm

One quote from it caught my eye " If you do not have many matches sharing 65cM of DNA with you, then it will not work, and it will not place any matches labelled "Unassigned" into a cluster."

Well that explains why I have no clusters and am not likely to have any in the future - I only have 6 matches of 65 cM and above and 4 of those are unassigned! ( As it happens the 4 are all close matches with each other and I know what the connection is. Quite why they are unassigned is yet another issue!).

I hope others fare rather better!

I have just checked and I also have the new clusters feature. This is my result.

" We're sorry, we couldn't cluster your matches - This may because you don't have enough matches yet. You can try again as more people take DNA tests.".

I have over 28,000 matches! The reason for this is more likely to be , as Glen has suggested , the nature of my matches not meeting their criteria. My highest match is 128cM.

(I did transfer my ancestry kit to MH where I have 9 clusters. To be honest I have not found them that helpful!).

Durham / Re: Thomas Hall of Lanchester

I believe that Jonathan Hall and Mary Makepeace are probably my 4x great grandparents, their daughter Eleanor being my 3x great grandmother. Eleanor married William Ward in Lanchester in 1805. As Boo has suggested it is worth looking at the children of Thomas/ Dorothy. In my line's case one piece of useful evidence is that there appears to be a naming pattern going on - eldest son of William and Eleanor called Jonathan and second daughter named Mary.

I do understand your difficulty. In my own case I do not feel I can go further back than Jonathan Hall and Mary Makepeace with any degree of certainty.

I was surprised to read of the problem with syncing described. I have FTM 2019 installed and have Ancestry's two factor authentication enabled. The only problems I have had with syncing have occurred when the weather has not been "Green" for syncing. This may be because I do not log out of Ancestry after each visit and have only used 2FA when forced to log in anew.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Re: Alice Edge of Nantwich

Here is a link to the article about the funeral of Alice Edge. It is  the first article and is titled "Funeral of Miss A Edge". You would need to register  with the British Newspaper Archive to read it in full.

( I found it by searching for Alice Edge and then using the filters to narrow the search down to 13 Jan 1966).

Just to add to what DCB has written  in the article I quoted from the Nantwich Chronicle ,Vera Farrington is named as Alice Edges's niece.

This may be worth checking out.

There is a death for an Alice Edge 31 Dec 1965 in Nantwich. The death was registered in the first quarter of 1966.

Not only did she leave a will but there is a report of her funeral in the Nantwich Chronicle of 13 Jan 1966. This names many family members who you may recognise.

" The funeral took place at All Saints Cemetery, Nantwich on Wednesday of last week of Miss Alice Edge, aged 76, of 23 Pratchett's Row Nantwich, who died the previous Friday".

You can register for the British Newspaper Archive and , I believe, obtain 3 free articles.

Grace Dryburgh can be found in Wirksworth, Derbyshire in the 1911 census where she is an elementary school head teacher. The address is Steeple Grange. Her sister  Mary is her housekeeper.
Grace is also in Wirksworth in the 1901 census.
