Shropshire / Maria Churm's Mother. Completed
« on: Friday 31 December 10 12:31 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the parents of Maria Churm, born in Wellington in 1814.
The IGI has Samuel and Anne listed as her parents, but my puzzle is what was Anne's maiden name.

There are a few marriages for Samuel Churm and Ann in Wellington...

Samuel and Ann Brown in 1760, which I think could be the parents of said Samuel.
Samuel and Anne Wilson in 1784.
And Samuel and Ann Adderley in 1895.

What I am wondering is which of these could be the mother of Maria and did they have any other children?
I would welcome any thoughts on this matter.

Regards

Derbyshire / I need help to correct my mistakes. Completed
« on: Sunday 10 October 10 10:50 BST (UK)  »
I need help. I feel like giving up as I have been noticing a few mistakes lately in my tree. I have made the mistake of adding the wrong parents and siblings of William Walker b in 1824 to my tree.  :-[

I thought his parents were John and Mary, and I have just found his marriage to Hannah Margerrison in 1849 in Chesterfield. It says his father was James.
I have Hannah's correct parents but not William's.

Now I can't find who James was married to, to correct my mistakes.
PLEASE can anyone help?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Alfred and Jane Williams. Completed
« on: Wednesday 06 October 10 15:17 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find more information about the parents of Ellen Williams born in Sheffield in 1871.
I know they were Jane and Alfred as I have found them on the 1871 census living in Sheffield with Ellen age 2 months.
It says both Jane and Alfred were born in Nottingham. Jane abt 1851 and Alfred abt 1845.
I can't find them on the 1881 census.
I found Ellen in 1881 living with her grand parents, Richard and Martha Marriott in Sheffield.
But I can't find a marriage for Alfred Williams to Jane Marriott.

I would appreciate any help.

Derbyshire Completed Look ups / What was Louisa's maiden name? Completed.
« on: Monday 27 September 10 18:59 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the maiden name of Louisa, married to John Evans.
From the 1871 and 1881 census, I know she was born in Clay Cross in 1842 and she had her first child Eliza Mary, in 1864. John's family also lived in Clay Cross.
After the marriage, John and Louisa stayed in Clay Cross.

The only marriage I found for a John and Louisa, was to Louisa Wilkinson in 1863 in Sheffield.
The only other marriage I found for a John Evans was to Elizabeth Cuzner, in Chesterfield in 1864.

Could John or Louisa have been in Sheffield in 1863, then moved back to Clay Cross?

I don't have access to census records and I am trying to find her maiden name without having to buy another certificate if possible, as I have bought quite a lot lately.

Derbyshire Completed Look ups / Fire Engine, Staveley. Completed
« on: Tuesday 08 June 10 11:32 BST (UK)  »
I have recently discovered a fourth cousin once removed and recommended RootsChat to her.
I also recommended RootsChat to my doctor when he said he was looking into his family history.
My cousin and I have been communicating via email and she has noticed that some of the parish entries for Staveley mention  " Fire Engine " and wondered what or where it was.
I have no idea, so I thought I would ask if any RootsChatter's know.

Derbyshire / Edith Mary Hardwick nee Siddall
« on: Tuesday 11 May 10 14:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am looking for any descendants of Edith Mary Hardwick nee Siddall. Born in Staveley in 1890.

She married John Thomas Hardwick ( b 1881 in Staveley ) in 1908 in Chesterfield.

They had 8 children, Edith M b in 1916, married a Simms in 1939 in Chesterfield. They had 2 children.

Mary E b in 1921, married a Clifford in 1940 in Chesterfield. They had 12 children.

I would like to contact any descendants to verify that I have the correct names for these children, and did Mary E really have 12 children?
The youngest of the 12, would be the same age as myself, and  they would be my second cousins.

Graveyards and Gravestones / Could this stone be moved? Completed
« on: Sunday 04 April 10 13:55 BST (UK)  »
I recently found the grave stone of my 3x great grandmother.
It was in a corner of a small park, where I had gone to look for names on the cenotaph. I noticed some grave stones by the wall on the other side of the park, so I went to look.
As I walked on what I thought was a path, I looked down and saw I was standing on the grave stone of my ancestor.
That corner of the park is being used to dump compost.

I think it is very disrespectful to use grave stones in this way. Would I have the right to ask the council for this stone to be moved from where it is, to a different place?

Completed Census Requests / Florence May Wigston in 1901 Completed
« on: Wednesday 24 March 10 11:21 GMT (UK)  »
I have the marriage details of Florence May Wigston, to Archie Clifford Lewis in 1928, in Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

Her father was John Thomas Wright Wigston, a Shoe Finisher.
I have found her father and the family on the 1901 census, under John S W Wigstone,  but I cannot find Florence May.

She was born in 1896, in Chesterfield. I have found her birth details but then she seems to disappear.

I have tried different combinations of her name, but still I can't find her, so I thought I would ask for help. Can anyone find Florence May?
