United States of America / Re: Return from America to England 1871 to 1878?
« on: Friday 10 July 09 21:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Edward Pearson marriage to Maria Allatt June 1878 Pontefract, West Yorkshire Vol 9c. p. 97.   If you know when/where he was born can look on the 1871 census.

Hope this helps.

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Re: John PALMER b:1819 Bratton, Wiltshire, England
« on: Thursday 09 July 09 14:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi Alan,

I've had a look at a lot of the records now for the Baptist Chapel in Bratton and still no Palmer's.  I had a look at Pew records hoping for a family connection, sorry not one Palmer listed.  It would appear that they were  possibly not a "Bratton" family.  However a lot of the Bratton villagers were baptised in All Saint's Church in Westbury ( couple of miles away); All Saint's Church was considered the "main" church in the area, hope this helps.

Angie

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Which William? - Holborn
« on: Thursday 09 July 09 11:04 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for your reply.  Yes that was my first thought. All I have for Eliza on the 1861 census is birth 1816 Dorsetshire, Dorset? (a Needlewoman) living in Southwark, Surrey.  Their first (?) child listed on 1861 is son William b. 1843 in Southwark.  I've hunted for a marriage cert, she may ofcourse be an Elizabeth? and to present - no luck! Another brickwall!  Thanks anyway, I think that is the way forward tho' to try and find their marriage.

Any suggestions please! I have 4 possible baptism's for William Smith (1) 20 Jan 1794 - mother Mary Smith (2) 26 October 1794 parents William & Elizabeth (3) 23 Nov 1794 parents Richard & Agnes (4) 7 Dec 1794 parents Edward & Hannah.  All at Saint Andrew, Holborn.   On the 1841 census William Smith gives his birth date as 1794 Holborn, occupation Coach Lace Weaver, wife Eliza and children all living in Southwark, Surrey.  He lists the same birth date, place & occupation on the 1861 census, so guessing it is correct.  Will I be able to prove which William is the correct son? I'm at a fullstop and would appreciate any help or advice.

Many thanks

Hi Jo,

Thank you so much for looking, really appreciated.  I have now managed to find Jane Grattan b. 1832 Kilkenny, Ireland ( Jeremiah's wife) all thanks to Rootschat pointing me in the right direction.  I will try other avenues for Jeremiah.  Very many thanks once again. Angie

Kilkenny / GRATTON Jane 1832 Kilkenny
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 16:55 BST (UK)  »
Help needed please! I'm looking for any information relating to  Jane Gratton, born 1832 Kilkenny, Ireland.  She married Jeremiah Searle, I have no idea whether this was in Ireland or England? I cannot find a registration for them in England so hopefully someone may be able to guide me as  to where I should look for an Irish marriage.  The only other information I have for Jane is the 1871 census which lists her mother as Elizabeth Gratton b. 1805 Osp (?) Ireland.  Elizabeth was then living with her daughter and family in Taunton, Somerset.

Any information on the Gratton family, or advice as to how I research them further through Irish records ( new to me) would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
