Yorkshire (North Riding) / Daughters of Walter and Marie Bartaby
« on: Friday 10 July 09 16:40 BST (UK)  »
I am Trying to contact the two daughters of Walter and Marie Bartaby nee WANLESS - Lived in Camelon Street, Thornaby-on-Tees. 1940s, 50s and, 60s. Marie's father "Billy" Wanless lived with them after 1949 on the death of her mother Sarah.
These two girls are cousins and believe it or not I don't even know their first names.

Hope someone in the Middlesbrough/Teesside area can help.

I have checked the Commonweath War Graves Commission for Alfred Robert Sarge, a Canadian in the RFC, no records exist so it is probable that Alfred survived the war.

Some websites that may be of help: www. cefresearch.com
www.theaerodrome.com

Good Luck with your research

I am trying to trace the sons of  John Dryden .( Peter and Michael) who would be in their late 50s or early 60s

Johns' mother was Mary Elizabeth Stewart from Middlesbrough who married Daniel Dryden from Middlesbrough, though her parents John and Sarah Stewart arrived in Middlesbrough from Anderston in Glasgow in the 1890s.

John served in the RHA in the 1930s and his service was continuous until the 1950s, he was brought up by his Aunt Sarah Stewart during the 1920s and early 30s.

My last information was that after the army he settled in the County of Wiltshire as a Publican after that the info has dried up.
I hope someone from the Wiltshire area will know of him or his sons, unfortunately I dont even know the town in Wilts.

Thanks

Seahall,
Thanks for the info , I had looked at the CWGC  Site, though only for Freen not Freer and I assumed Henry "Harry" had survived the war, that puts a different complexion on the photograph, assuming the photo was taken in 1914 that  makes Henry aged 20 or 21 years. Such a fine young man.
Henry had two younger brothers, Percy and another on the photo  not yet born in 1901 census, so there is a possibility that descendants are  still in the area of Wellingborough.

Thanks again

I ama new member here and would like some info if available on the following---

I have  been given an old WW1 photo and a Silk souvenier from Egypt that were found in the back of an old Picture Frame bought in the South of France. The photo is of a large family,  Mother, Father, Five girls and 3 boys in the years 1914 1918 period, as the older boy is in uniform,. on the  back of the photo is written "Miss Freen 9 Alliance Terrace
Wellingborough. The silk is 2' x2' and a lilac colour with the words "Souvenier of Egypt then the Military badge underneath "Army Cyclist Corps" and under that "From Harry to Mother 1916 -17.

I am from Cleveland so I have no direct connections with Wellinborough though I would dearly like the descendants of the family in the photo to have these items.

Can anybody out there assist?

Thanks
