Breconshire / Alexander Vallis
« on: Yesterday at 16:03 »
I have Alexander Vallis on the 1861 census:

Name   Alexander Vallis
Age                                   38
Estimated Birth Year   abt 1823
Where born   Wiltshire, England

Civil Parish or Township   Llangynider
County/Island   Breconshire
Country   Wales
Registration district   Crickhowell
Sub-registration district   Llangunider
ED, institution, or vessel   5
Household schedule number   165
Piece   4216
Folio   78
Page number   29

Household members
Name   Age
Alexander Vallis   38
Ann          Vallis   37
Ann          Vallis   11
John         Vallis   6
Mary Jane Vallis   3
William Bevan   36

I know that there was a daughter Elizabeth (registered Vallice) born Cricjhowell 1863. Elizabeth married in 1886 and her father Alexander is not shown as deceased on the certificate (but he could be?)

However I have not been able to find any census or other information on any of the family (apart from Elizabeth) after the 1861 census. This is obviously something to do with the name Vallis, I have found different registrations names for each of the children and Elizabeth was married with the name Valias.

Would welcome any help in finding further census information.

Cheshire / Wych House Bank, Nantwich 1851 census
« on: Saturday 13 January 24 11:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, looking for the 1851 Nantwich census which has Wych House Bank.

I have a 1849 marriage certificate which gives the Wych House Bank address and the couple are in the same place on the 1861 census. Can't find them on the 1851 census anywhere (problem with surname) so big assumption that they may be at the Wych Bank address in 1851.

Names Thomas (1827) and Jane (1830) Rooney. Both born Ireland.

Lancashire / Richard Williamson Abt 1841 Manchester
« on: Saturday 06 January 24 11:46 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for Richard Williamson prior to Dec 1861.

I have a marriage for Richard on the 22 Dec 1861 to a Maria Hudson.

The marriage certificate gives his age as 20,(occupation Carter) and his fathers name as John Williamson (occupation Carter) and his residence at time of marriage Dunbar Street.

The marriage was at St. John's Church, Manchester. The only Dunbar St. I can find is Oldham.

Subsequent census gives his place of birth as Salford (1871) and Manchester (1881 & 1891).

Have searched for census earlier than 1871 without success, would welcome any help from Rootschat.

Armed Forces / 2nd Batt SWB
« on: Wednesday 15 February 23 11:08 GMT (UK)  »
Doing a family tree for a friend I found an army record on Anc...y where his grandfather attested in 1895 to join the Devonshire Regt. However the attestation paper shows that at the time he was serving with the 2nd Batt. SWB. Can anyone advise how I can find his army record with the SWB?

Section 17 on the attestation form (did you receive a notice and who gave it to you) the person who gave the form is shown as a "SM Wingham" (it looks like Wingham?) 2nd Batt SWB.

Armed Forces / Kings Regulations 1901
« on: Wednesday 01 February 23 14:46 GMT (UK)  »
Looking at a family tree for a friend. Have found his grandfather who was with the Devonshire Rgt. in South Africa. He had a few episodes of desertion. But later I found this:

Service forfeited for desertion restored under para 1842 (ii) Kings Regulation 1901

Can anyone advise what this refers too. I have googled but not found anything, well anything I can understand.
